The More Malzhan Does, The More I Am Down With The Hire

Grimes is a solid hire as Auburn's OL coach.

The guy is an OL wizard!

Auburn hires J.B. Grimes as offensive line coach

He coached with Gus Malzahn at Arkansas State, and has plenty of experience coaching in the South

I know you are trolling/being facetious, but if he was Gus' first choice he would have been at AU recruiting a while ago.

The guy's resume speaks for its self. You are making it seem as though the guy has put out bad OL's or has never coached in a big time conference. None of which is true. You sound as if you just desire for Auburn fans to be sick. Either that or you are thinking his name is Jeff Grimes. Jeff's lines at Auburn the last couple of years have been an abomination. I think JB Grimes is a great hire. Also, who has a big name as a OL coach? I do not know any.

  • If he gets to 7 wins it will be an incredible coaching job.

QB: I don't think you have one on your roster that should be playing in the SEC.

RB: T. Mason ran for 1,002 and 8 TD's, he'll be better and will have help from CAP, Blakely (assuming he can hold onto the football), and your QB (Wallace or KF)

WR: Major improvement is needed, no standouts return.

TE: Uzomah had a good - year 7 catches for 136 yards and a TD. He should be a nice weapon.

OL: I guess the starting group will be as follows:
    LT - G. Robinson
    LG - D. Danzey
    C - R. Dismukes
    RG - C. Slade
    RT - P. Miller
A combined 64 starts is pretty good and a step in the right direction, they should be improved.

Defensive line SHOULD be the strength of the defense, we'll see if they can pull it together.
LB is a weakness, Frost, Holland, McKinzy, Swain, Garrett & Mitchell will have a long year.
DB - Corner should be fairly solid, with Holsey and Mincy starting backed-up by 2 seniors in Davis & White. Safety could be a liability or an asset, depends on whether Whitehead & Florence buy in or are in the dog house.

You can't say pro style is that much different than the spread. If its the wishbone and the spread, yes, it's different. Having one guy (the quarterback) make different reads isn't that alarming.

    Way different.

  • Melvin Smith was another excellent hire for Malzahn. Our DBs will actually force turnovers now, which can only be a good thing with Malzahn's quick-strike offense.

He will be fired in three years.

poor guy, they already fired him once. o'wait, he left to take a $1m paycut.

    on a different thought...
imo, Gus will be twice the HC (a CEO type) that Chizik ever was. he'll likely hire less shady type assistants than Chizik. and he'll more than certainly be able to retain more than
60 % of his signing classes to better Chizik's posse.

with that said however, he had better find a Cam/Tebow type QB & fast or he'll get the same treatment the last two guys on the Farm got (minus the big buy outs).

as purely a HC w/ a Pro style OC running the offense and maybe a little Gus-Ball mixed in as a wrinkle.... i would give the hire a solid grade, but thats not going to happen.

That I get, but idk whose take that was, but it wasn't me, therefore you will receive no argument from me about it nor any discussion. Glad we agree on miller though, if we didn't I might question your football knowledge. biggrin

I think if Gus has an above average SEC dual threat QB and a solid defense, he will do very well at Auburn.

You know Chris Todd was the only person not happy with Cam's TD record.

He needed HC experience. He knew Chizik was a sinking ship and he would be a candidate for Auburn when we fired Chizik.
