Loved how he crapped all over that gossip columnist too, hate people like her

That and when he gets pissed at the other girl for actually caring about that stuff are my two favorite parts of the episode.

I like the show, but really didn't like that scene. I mean its cool to say America is not #1, but you have to put forth a candidate that you believe is "better". Overall, not in just some minor categories. Also the numbers used in this rant are incorrect.

    Still a very good show.

Anyone watching this show? Pretty cool thus far

It's tv so it's going to be way more dramatic than the real deal.

Like Aussie said, it's better than most of the crap on tv so I will continue to watch it

  • This show uses comedy and drama to push a passive aggressive political agenda just like SNL does. It is trying to create influence with the mask of being unbiased to both sides. It is unwatchable to me now.

The left doesn't have idiots? They went after the Tea Party in E3, every headlining right wing media member in E4. You don't think the show has been a little more left of center so far?

But really, you gotta admit the right makes itself a much bigger target with all of the extremist scare tactics based on complete falsehoods. Like Aussie said both sides have idiots and I completely agree with that but the right gives out a whole lot more ammo.

It's not about attacking one side or the other, it's about exposing all the BS in politics in general that news stations stay away from so they don't offend viewers and take a ratings hit. He doesn't take a position on the topics he takes a position on the lies.

Okay you confused me on this one. Are you talking about the show? I agree that all politics is BS but you don't honestly believe that news stations stay away from the BS because they don't want hits on ratings do you? I think that is what the show is trying to shine a light on. That news stations have agenda's do to corporate sponsorships and that their BS is just as bad as the politicians who's agendas that they push.

Jesus, look at Fox News for the right and MSNBC for the left (I think I got those two right, I don't watch the news for the reasons I listed).

I don't think so. It was another decent episode but nothing that really stood out.

I do like how they are taking on the TMZ's of the world.

I've really enjoyed it so far. Yeah the right bashing is a little over the top. The show would score a couple more points with me if Will who calls himself a card carrying republican would even it up just a little but it's HBO/Hollywood so what do you expect.

It's is a little over dramatic as well but I think it's done pretty well. I don't remember how the "breaking news" events surrounding the Gabby Gifford shooting were actually played out in reality but that was 15 minutes of really, really powerful television. I made my wife go back and watch it the next morning (her first 15 minutes of the show) and she's hooked.

So yeah, even though it's a little corny, a little biased to this point, a little overly dramatic and has a little too much rapid fire writing, overall I find it to be very entertaining. Kind of like getting C's on every test in a Semester but the prof liking your contributions to the class so he bumps you to a B.

  • One thing I was thinking of yesterday:

In the show, Will is torn down for his comments of E1 when he goes on the bit about not being the best country in the world. To contrast, everyone I speak to about this show identifies that scene as the best so far. It's what got them hooked, it's what got them thinking, etc.

    Thoughts?

That was the scene that was supposed to get everyone hooked as that was the teaser during much of the advertising. If we're talking entertainment value, it was entertaining because it was supposed to be shocking. From a realistic critique of the "speech", it was kind of shitty. I could blow a million holes in his theories of why we're not anymore.

Despite our issues, this is still the best country in the world. No matter what anybody else says to the contrary.

I would personally disagree but that is just me. If I could leave for a country like Ireland, I would do it tomorrow. We wonder why people around the rest of the world hate us and it's simple. We are the only country on the planet that constantly tells everyone else that, "We are better than you and you are lucky to have us around."

Here's a reply to that scene I read on another board a few weeks ago that I tend to agree with:

I'm in my mid-30's and even I can see how information was cherry
picked in the script. America was great, but now we aren't? So what
made us great? Sending people into space? Fighting poverty, not poor
    people? Advances in technogy, leading?

Come on, we can spin anything anyway we want! Why is America
great today? We created the internet, Apple computer, satellite TV,
GPS, we overthrew a dictator in the middle East, we killed Osama, we
banded together after 9-11 and Katrina...it goes on an on. But that's
just when you look at the positives.

Remind me about racism, the dust bowl, gas guzzling muscle cars, the
atomic bomb, Hooverville, sweat shops, women's rights, etc, etc. How
many kids graduating from high school in the 50's and 60's had an
    opportunity to go to college?

Give me a freaking break. America is the greatest country on the face
of the planet, not because we are the best at everything, it's because
our Founding Father's build a nation that would endure based on simple,
yet significant principles. On top of that we are large, proud, and stick
together regardless of how much in-fighting we have...even Civil Wars.

We have our problems, for sure. But guess what? We've always had
problems. It's just that 24 hour media coverage covers it more these
days. Guess what? We invented them too.

Would we rather be China, Russia, Japan, Australia, Germany? I
assure you, they have their problems too...it's just that 24-hour World
news networks only highlight those countries, meanwhile we are under
a microscope. Why? Because we are the show, and the rest of the
    world is mearly spectators.

Suck it Sorkin, we're still the best

    JoeHoo

  • That was a really good episode. Maybe it was just because of the story they were covering but that was their best episode yet.
