  • Is Lewan holding a press conference? I've never seen a press conference where a player decides to stay.

It will be close, but hard to not give Duke the edge with a neutral court W over Louisville- don't care how close it was.. that's impressive

Why? Duke beat OSU at home (barely) and Minnesota on a neutral court. If we beat them both on their home floors, how is that not more impressive? The reality is, we don't really know how good Louisville is. For all we know, they will wilt in BE play. At least with OSU and Minny we know both UM and Duke played the same teams.

Louisville is really the only game on that list that stands out. And FWIW they had trouble beating Louisville. It was very close most of the way. Likewise, with OSU. OSU led most of the game at Cameron. In comparison, both Kansas and Illinois handles OSU easily. And we will play Minnesota at the Barn in a week. If we beat OSU at OSU and Minnesota at Minnesota our resume will be as good as Duke's.

It's not worth arguing until it happens, because I think this argument includes a lot of assumptions on both sides. UM fans are able to envision the situation if they win @OSU and @MINN, whereas I think most MSU fans view it much less likely that you win both, and therefore I think our thoughts may reflect that.

Just looking at overall resume.. sure if UM wins @OSU and @Minny, those 2 wins would be more impressive than home v OSU and vs. Minny

So if/when Louisville starts to lose, we can adjust Duke's good wins accordingly.. but at this time on Jan 9- that is a top 5 win on a neutral floor and that trumps anything on UM's schedule to date (including if UM sweeps OSU/Minny next week)

Of course. If we lose the games, the argument is moot.

Didn't Matt Barkely do it last year? Trey Burke also?

  • So Denards not even going to try to play QB anymore, huh? Good decision.

Yep, Barkley did. I don't remember Trey's, i thought he just let reporters know, not an actual organized press conference, not sure

Why is Louisville so special? I haven't seen more than about 1 1/2 of their games, but they have only played one clearly top tier team (Duke) and they lost. For all we know, both OSU and Minny are better than Louisville. OSU nearly beat Duke on their home court. Louisville's best win is at home over Missouri. Sorry if I'm not overly impressed.

And UM's best win is at home over NC State..

    What makes UM so special?

(not trying to argue UM isn't good- but you can't have that logic both ways if you're just looking at best wins)

Edit: And the Missouri W for Louisville was neutral floor per ESPN

No but I'd expect you'd make shirts if/when we lose with an exact score and date on it like you did in football.

This is one of the gifts that keeps on giving.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

  • FWIW, new Scout 300 is out. MSU has 4 guys on the list; Damion Terry, Shane Jones, Jon Reshcke and Dennis Finely.

You keep changing the argument. We are not talking about comparing resumes today. We are talking about comparing resumes if we beat the same two teams you are giving Duke credit for beating - OSU and Minnesota - but we beat them on their home floors. But this is a near pointless discussion anyway. Who cares? Rank Duke wherever you want and UM wherever you want. The season has a long way to go and we have many good teams remaining on our schedule. I'm far more interested in seeing how we do in those games than I am concerned with where some talking head (or you) rank UM on Jan 9.
