They can approach anyone they want. But short of being shown the door a la Tubby Smith going from Kentucky to Minnesota, Crean is not leaving IU to take the MSU job. IU is a blue blood basketball program. MSU is not. IU is the most historied basketball program in the B10. MSU is not. IU is located in one of the best if not the best states for basketball talent in the country. MSU is not. Basketball is god at IU, which means it will always trump football. MSU is a nice program, but it's nowhere near IU.
Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

No one said MSU isn't a nationally known team. What we said is the IU job is a better job. It is. Just like Kentucky, Duke and North Carolina are better jobs. Just like UCLA and Kansas are better jobs. Be happy you have Izzo. He's done a fine job. But I'll believe it when I see it that MSU hires away a highly successful head coach from one of the schools I just listed. It's not happening.

This is just wrong on so many levels. MSU has the cache to approach anyone. They would listen too.
Izzo isn't going for at least five years but if the get Mormon sliced bread and add that hurt freshman and Dawson, we'll be back to the final four. It just gets better and better for anyone wanting the job.

It will be interesting to see what happens when Coach K leaves Duke, he made that team, UCLA has been struggling as of late, Kentucky was so desperate they have gone with Calipari. Good ole Roy went to UNC, although they can attract any coach they want. MSU has never attempted to hire another basketball coach in the last 30+ years, so who knows what kind of pull they get. I do know that MSU is packaged as part of marquee visiting team games though, along with UNC and Duke. I know that MSU is invited to marquee 3 year events such as a champions classic and they have the option to play in other marquee events like playing on an aircraft carrier.

Coach K has a longtime assistant (can't remember his name) and I think Coach K will push for him to get the job. TBH, I think they would be better off hiring Brad Stevens, but it will be hard to buck Coach K's wishes. He built Duke basketball. My guess is Stevens will eventually end up either at Duke or Carolina. As for UCLA, I was shocked Howland wasn't fired last year and will be even more shocked if he isn't this year. As for who they hire, I have no clue. Maybe they will make a run at Stevens. Texas fans also have to be getting impatient with Barnes. They really haven't done anything since the Durant years.
As for Izzo's replacement, what about Scott Skiles?

It's crazy how they don't blink an eye at thinking miles would leave LSU for ann arbor but wouldn't think Crean would listen. They just don't get it.Christ Almight, you just made my point.
If Miles - an alum, former player, former assistant coach, and Bo disciple turned down Michigan, why the hell is it so hard to believe that Crean would turn down MSU?

At the start of the Kansas/MSU game they had a breakdown of NC, Final Fours... Between the 4 teams involved. It reminded me of one of those Sesame Street clips where they ask which one of these doesn't belong. MSU is the ugly duckling of that classic.

Note: The Duke assistant coach I was thinking of is Chris Collins. Maybe Coach K will not push for him to get the job, but he played for him and has been his righthand man for nearly a decade. He has to be at or very near the top of the list of candidates to succeed Coach K.
