What does he do all day? Just work and watch the History Channel?

Edit: Does he like cars? If so, I'd definitely suggest taking him to the auto show in Detroit. http://www.naias.com/

If you've never been, they have all kinds of cars there, mostly new/future models, including Bentley, Porsche, Rolls Royce, Jaguar, etc.

If you think he might be into an auto show, but old cars instead of new, I'd be happy to ask a friend of mine about some good ones in Michigan and where to find more info.

Thanks man. I'll have to find out if he's into cars or not. If he is then I might take you up on that offer.

Yea, just thinking that those games were also against some opponents who weren't as good as Bama (Pitt springs to mind, and Stanford, since ND played them before Hogan took over at QB). Only team to beat ND has a Heisman winner at QB; Golson is o.k., but not THAT good. Bama has some (relative) weakness at CB, but I don't see Robby Toma/John Goodman being the caliber of WR to take advantage of that. Best bet is to work the middle of the field with Eifert, but Robert Lester is a pretty sick player at S.

ND's OL is very good though, so who knows? On paper it looks like a 65-70% chance of a Bama W.

Golson is going to have to have a really good game to beat 'Bama. If he can't make almost all of the tough throws then I don't like ND's chances trying to run the ball against 'Bama. Even if ND's offense is effective, I'm still not entirely convinced that ND can stop Alabama's offense enough to win the game.

Yea, I'm just looking at it and see Golson ranking 63rd in passing eff., going up a very good passing eff. D. It's not like Golson tore it up this year; he made just enough plays to allow a great D to do the rest. Against Alabama, he's going to have to take a major step forward, and I just don't see the offensive weapons on ND to challenge Alabama consistently.

I think Kelly is a good coach, but I wouldn't want to be playing Saban with a month to prepare.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

I don't think it's going to be much of a game, but the battle between Alabamas O and Notre Dames D should be great for a while.

Ultimately I think Alabama is going to wear them down and pull away in the 2nd half.

My father in law was like that. He was much older than me (by almost 50 years), he was a devout Catholic, and he was a kook. The best thing I could do was just sit and listen to him talk, and ask some questions about the war. We had nothing else in common but when I asked about the war, he could go on and on.

Find something HE likes and engage him in conversation about that.

This a billion times. Make the day about him. He might surprise you once you start talking to him also.

OT: My girlfriend has asked that I try to get to know her dad because they're very close since her mother's passing a few years ago. She asked that I take him out to do something since he doesn't get out of the house very much. The problem is that he doesn't hunt, he doesn't fish, he doesn't watch sports, he doesn't like movie theaters, and he doesn't drink. What can I possibly do with this man? Help me.

If you are near G.R., Gerald R. Ford Museum + lunch at the Grand Plaza might be good.

I'm getting hated on by the ND crowd on tBB for that viewpoint lol. Here's how I have it:

    Bama O vs. ND D - Even

    ND O vs. Bama D - Bama

    Special Teams - Bama (ND is 115th and 84th in PR/KR . . . . Bama is 39th and 14th respectively).

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Is their even an O that ND has faced that is even close to Alabamas?

I think I'd even give Alabama's O the edge. From what I've seen their ground running game is flat out incredible.

Oklahoma and Southern Cal are in range of Bama in terms of scoring O, but neither have the punishing ground game that Alabama has.

All that said, it's still a football game played with 18-22 year old boys. Anything can happen. I'm given ND a chance, and wouldn't be shocked if they pull off the upset.

  • Rumors are that ND is losing Eiffert and Wood early. I believe they also lose Te'o, Riddick and Martin. Calabrese and Motta also are seniors, but not sure if they redshirted. Does anyone know?

I know Teo is done. He played as a freshman in 2009.

EDIT: All those guys you mentioned were in the class of 09. I'm not sure who else played as freshman.

  • Former IU basketball and football player, and ex-Michigan GA and assistant football coach Cam Cameron gets the heave ho by Raven's HC John Harbaugh.

The Yahoo article is not very kind to old Cammy.

Keeping QB Joe Flacco happy meant the Ravens had to get rid of coordinator Cam Cameron - Yahoo! Sports

From Yahoo! Sports: The passer and assistant coach apparently had a turbulent relationship that may have factored into the offense's inconsistency.

    ND rarely redshirts anyone.

Here are the 5th and 4th year ND Seniors of note:

    5th years:

    S Jamoris Slaughter
    S Dan McCarthy
    DE Kapron Lewis-Moore
    WR John Goodman
    OG Mike Golic Jr.
    C Braxton Cave

4th years (doesn't say if they RS or not, so some of these could be RS JR)

    RB Cierre Wood
    OG Chris Watt
    LB Kevin Walsh
    P Ben Turk
    WR Robby Toma
    ILB Manti Te'o
    K Nick Tausch
    RB Theo Riddick
    S Zeke Motta
    OT Zack Martin
    TE Jake Golic
    ILB Dan Fox
    TE Tyler Eifert
    ILB Carlo Calabrese

If Nix leaves, that's a big chunk of their defense out the door.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

I just poked around to see which players were celebrated on field during senior day. They included Robbie Toma (WR), Zeke Motta (S), Theo Riddick (RB), Zack Martin (LT), Tyler Eiffert (TE), Braxton Cave (OC), Kapron Lewis-Moore (DE) and Manti Te'o (LB). No mention of Cierre Wood (RB), but his mother recently stated publicly she thinks it's a 75% chance he leaves. Also, no mention of Calabrese or Nix.

FWIW if they lose both their RBs and Eiffert, that's pretty big right there on offense. They have George Atkinson III, but he hasn't really done much to date other than return kicks. It's hard to see how their offense will be any better next year than this year and it wasn't all that noteworthy this year. Purdue and we get them at home next year and it wouldn't suck to start the season with a B10 sweep of the Irish.

Kind of odd that spread QB guru Kelly has really struggled to find passing weapons outside of Michael Floyd, who he inherited. Really, that passing offense hasn't been much of anything outside of the first 5-6 games they had with Cryst in 2010. The derth of skill position guys is pretty crazy, and they're about to lose their top 3 offensive playmakers.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.
