    Lol.

    Quick sidenote, did you guys know that if you lose to SC, that you and Notre Dame will actually be tied for program winning percentage? You would both be at .734. I think UM would actually have a better percentage, but it would be interesting...

    Currently:
    UM: 903-314-36 (921/1253 = .735036)
    ND: 865-300-42 (886/1207 = .734051)

    If UM Loses:
    UM: 903-315-36 (921/1254 = .734450)

    If ND Wins:
    ND: 866-300-42 (887/1208 = .734272)

    If ND Loses:
    ND: 865-301-42 (886/1208 = .733444)

    That's not right. What is 921 for UM? And 886 for ND?

    #s right now are ...

    UM = 903/1253 = .7207
    ND = 865/1207 = .7167

    #s if UM loses and ND wins ...

    UM = 903/1254 = .7201
    ND = 866/1208 = .7169

  • Probably already been brought up, but ESPN named MSU as the unluckiest team in CFB this season. So we weren't really bad, just unlucky. Suck it down river.

    It's Insider article..

    1. Michigan State Spartans (6-6)

    The Spartans faithful may have been slightly spoiled by back-to-back double-digit winning seasons in 2010 and 2011, and a step backward in 2012 was to be expected after heavy personnel losses in key positions. But no fan base could have prepared itself for dealing with so many games slipping right through their fingers. Michigan State limped home to a .500 record overall and a 3-5 Big Ten conference record. The combined margin of defeat in those five conference games was a mere 13 points.

    The defense was outstanding throughout the season, holding opponents to only 1.2 points per drive (seventh-fewest nationally), 273 yards per game (fourth-fewest nationally) and forcing three-and-outs on 46.5 percent of opponent possessions (third-best nationally). Getting opponents off the field quickly often leads to field position advantages, but MSU's anemic offense and inconsistent special teams couldn't capitalize. The Big Ten Legends division is well within reach next year if the Spartans can find even a little bit more production on offense.

    The depth is there, watch a game and you see it. There isn't a serious drop-off in production when Burke, Hardaway, Stauskus, GR3 or Morgan sit. Michigan goes 9 deep easily, and that doesn't include former starter Vogrich. Depth is finally there, and I love it.

    I have watched MSU, they have gone stretches where Appling or someone else is on the bench and they look like crap. The backup (depth) is playing, but the team looks like crap. Pay attention, you can see it.

    Weren't you just shown that Michigan has a tougher SOS right now? Yea, anyway.

    UM's backups didn't look great against Bradley and Arkansas...

    Don't forget the deaf kids and the freshman squads or the lack of false starts, qb's, forward pass, African Americans, laces, helmets, facemasks, uniforms, numbers on those uniforms, set plays, holding, other modern penalties, away games, TV's, planes, cars, etc...

    And somehow UM is #3 unluckiest.. perhaps they are confused.. UM was lucky to not finish 6-6..

    3. Michigan Wolverines (8-4)

    Michigan was on the lucky side of the equation last year, which was why we had identified them as a top candidate to regress in 2012. The schedule was as brutal as predicted: Michigan lost four times to teams with a combined record of 46-4, and the two losses to undefeated Notre Dame and Ohio State came by only 12 points combined. The Wolverines lost the turnover battle in both of those games (minus-6), costing Michigan 19.3 points of scoreboard value, according to our game splits analysis. Turnovers were the big boost for the Wolverines in the first year of the Brady Hoke era, and they were the critical factor preventing Michigan from turning in another double-digit winning season this year.

    Michigan's defensive success has been strong in each of the last two years, ranking among the top-20 in opponent-adjusted defensive efficiency. The Wolverines were especially effective in limiting opponent big plays, giving up an "explosive drive" (possession that average at least 10 yards per play) on only 3.4 percent of opponent drives, the second-best rate in the nation behind Notre Dame.

    UM = 903/1254 = .7201 ND = 866/1208 = .7169

    When you calculate it the way you did, you are counting ties as losses. In order to properly account for ties, you have to count each tie as .5 wins. Therefore, UM's 36 ties count as 18 wins, and ND's 42 ties count as 21 wins.
    903+18 = 921
    865+21 = 886

    That is how winning percentage is calculated when ties are a possibility.

    Uh, no it's not. Ties are not wins. Sorry.

    Edit: I just checked the NCAA website and it looks like they do that. Not sure why, but if they do they do. It's not something I worry about much. Sorry, gotta go. Game is on.

    You're confusing balance and depth.

    Sure, when one of the 4 guys goes out, the drop off in production isn't that noticeable but that's because of the other 3 balanced scorers- of course the production drop off isn't that noticeable..

    But if you're telling me that a lineup of Burke/Timmy/Nik/GR3/Morgan doesn't drop off with Spike/Vogrich/Timmy/GR3/McGary you're nuts.

    Is there a drop-off, yes. You're nuts if you think there isn't one with 3 starters on the bench like you hypo. But you still have the distributor in Spike, and scorers in THJ and GR3, the pick and roll big in McGary, and Levert in place of Vogrich. When Michigan starts into there rotation, they don't become a trainwreck like MSU.

    Obviously. They are counted as 1/2 win and 1/2 loss. Check out the NFL standings, slugger.

    http://espn.go.com/nfl/standings

    San Francisco is 9-3-1. So they have played 13 games and won 9 of them.

    By your math, they would be .692 (9/13), but they are listed at .731. That's weird, how would they possibly have come up with that number?

    9.5/13 = .731
