I'm still dumbfounded by the existence of raisin pie.

How are UM fans feeling about Northwestern this weekend? They're coming off of a bye and have a tricky O . . . but their D isn't great and it's in AA. I think a 10-14 point UM W is in the cards.

Is that REALLY something to be laughing about?

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

I was bitching on the RCMB that you guys still had that Unabomber guy to hang over our heads. We need to try harder to out do you. I'd like to demand excellence from our nut jobs. I hate being number two.

In all seriousness thank god that idiot didn't kill anybody. Did you read any of his rants about the second amendment? What's more troubling is that you know there are other nuts out there waiting for the moment to lose it.

My wife tells me that some of her lifelong friends from high school and college were in bitter arguments on Facebook and have "unfriended" each other over it. She's telling me this and I'm trying not to laugh and they have the audacity to te us we're on this website too much arguing over foolishness.

Looks like he was experiencing the onsets of mental illness. You look at what Laughner and Holmes did thank goodness they caught this guy before anyone got killed.

I watched one of IU's exhibition games tonight and am finishing up watching one of Iowa's. IU looks a lot like last year. Fantastic athletes playing at a fast pace. Yogi Ferrel (sp?) is really good. Cody Zeller in the middle. Multiple very good 3-pt shooters. But still not the greatest team on defense. As for Iowa, they look really good. Woodbury and White make a very good front court and they still have May. Marble is athletic and can shoot. White can shoot. Balsabe (?) is very athletic and McCabe is another solid contributor. Looks like the B10 might be tougher top to bottom than last year.

Pretty good write up breaking down all of the players on the hoops teams.

Not a big fan of Payne taking more outside shots this year. Would love for him to camp out under the rim and work the post.

We got Trice and Harris who can shoot good. Why move Payne away from the basket?

    Completely agree with this statement:

"SG/SF Russell Byrd, 6-7 sophomore: This team badly needs more outside shooting, and Byrd's shot is one of the purest Izzo has seen -- in practice. If he can hit a few and play some defense, he'll be a big help."

From what I saw, you look very solid on the defensive end. But you had a bunch of sloppy turnovers and struggled to break down St. Cloud St.'s defense. As someone above said, though, it was just one exhibition game.

  • Paging Braintrust, you seem like the go to guy for Spartan hoops in this thread.

What's your thoughts on Payne taking more outside shots and playing the power forward spot?

Seems like best line up is with Payne or Nix at center, Dawson small forward and then have either Byrd, Gauna or Costello fill in at power forward?

Michigan State's Adreian Payne ready to put whole package together | Michigan State Spartans | Detroit Free Press | freep.com

Two words came to mind after one practice display from then-Michigan State freshman Adreian Payne -- the dunks, the blocks, the three-point shots, the 7-foot-1 wing span. Kevin Garnett. Then games began and the reality of Payne's debut season of 2010-11 materialized -- the recently repaired shoulder, the lack of strength, the defensive miscues.

From reading the freep this moring seems like the experiment with Payne at PF is causing some problems on D. He admits he's struggling against the guys that play out at the perimeter.

I think Valentine has been careless with the ball as well which is causing some disruptions to the flow of offense.

From the two previews I just read I feel like we need one of our PF to step up which would allow Payne to play at center when Nix is off the floor and allow Dawson to play the 3 spot where he's most comfortable at.

  • He's insane that's for sure. It happens. My freshman year at MSU I get a panic call from my brother who was in his senior year at Michigan. Some nut started a fire in a dorm. He then proceeded to shoot kids as they were coming out of their dorm rooms. One of the kids he killed was the son of one of my moms friends from high school in iron river / stambaugh Michigan. We could say he was a coward and a wolverine, but mostly we have to just say these people have snapped and hope for the best for everyone.

I can laugh about the I96 guy because nobody was hurt. I think there were a few jokes about what his screen name was in the RCMB. also, with that aim we were wondering if he had played qb while at MSU

My wife's book club read it and she recommended it to me. You can get through it pretty quick. Basically true but written as a novel. Do it on a slow weekend. I liked it. Just don't go to any fairs at night for a while

It seemed to be, but I only read it for about an hour by candle light in her hut. She gave it to me when she returned. It is sitting on one of our bookshelves right now. Someday I will get to it.

Thanks, I'll put it in my queue.

This is another one I've been meaning to read for years that I've put off.

My friend had a copy of it when I went to MSU. I'll never forget thumbing through that book and seeing the photo in the inside where cops found a dinner table he set up in the steam tunnels with papier-mache people sitting around it. Brrr! Left me feeling cold and creeped out .
