  • So what's the skinny on David Dawson from the UM group? Is he a lock to recommit on the 14th? Could another OL take his spot?

    Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

    It's being reported that a 15 year old student-athlete at Novi Detroit Catholic Central died in his sleep. The kid was a football player and based on WDIV, he played in the state championship game.

    What a tragedy. I can't imagine what the parents are going through.

    Sounds like he was the leading tackler on the team that day. Tragic story, makes me physically ill. go home and hug your kids today. Prayers are with the family and the young men who knew him and played with him and are no doubt having a very hard time dealing with this today.

    Yeah, that was a heart breaking article. Some of his former teachers are posting over on the RCMB. What a loss.

    Had a co-worker die in her sleep at age 28. No prior health issues and fine up to that point. She was a great person and it blew my mind that someone's life could be cut short and be over just like that.

    That story is bringing back some sad memories for me as well.

    That is horrible. As you said, I can't imagine going through something like that as parent.

    No idea. A week ago he named MSU his leader. He is visiting tOSU this weekend. The 14th he is visiting Michigan. That is a huge recruiting weekend with a ton of kids visiting that weekend, including other oline kids with offers. We will see, best of luck to him regardless of his decision.

    Agree with this. No idea. First reaction was that we wouldn't have reoffered without feeling confident Dawson was coming back, but then we offered Reschke and Finley. Neither of those is likely to flip, which suggests that Hoke isn't worried about the optics of whiffing. He is just going to offer who he wants in the order he wants them and if they end up elsewhere so be it. The other odd thing is we now have 3-4 highly ranked OL showing up on the same weekend for possibly one spot. It's going to be interesting to say the least.

    Gotcha. I guess I'll wait until after he visits tOSU/UM before I consider him a possible Spartan. I was under the assumption that the re-offer was all he needed to go back to UM, but we'll see.

    If Dawson doesn't commit to us on the weekend of the 14th, I would take that as a very good sign. I will be very surprised if we don't accept at least one OL commitment that weekend. It's possible we will take two more OL (especially if Lewan is not coming back), but it will depend on how things play out with Derrick Green (RB) and all the DBs we are still chasing. I think we will land Green (and I think the coaches might even know his answer by now). It also seems likely we will land at least one of Conley/McQuay/Crawford at CB. And we have suddenly started hunting for another LB (rumors are one is leaving the team). We have 22 current commits. 22 + 1 OL + 1 RB + 1 CB + 1 LB = 26, which is probably the max we can take until Lewan decides for sure he's not going to return.

    I feel like Hoke wouldn't have given Dawson an offer if he wasn't pretty sure where he wanted to end up. That being said, he still might lose his spot if one of the other OL Michigan offered decides to commit first.
