You always leave out the coaching matchup.

    Advantage MSU

Sorry about that. Head to head recently it is advantage Michigan. We can call it a push though to keep you from crying.

I'm not as worried as I was last year to be honest. Beilein split with MSU last year and last year MSU was the better team with better players. I'm looking forward to seeing how the games turn out when Michigan has the same caliber of players (for the first time in a long time) as MSU.

Looks like BB is the topic today, and we are almost 1/3 of the way through the regular season. Lineups are getting rounded out, and I still like the matchup for Michigan against MSU.

Appling PG Burke Valentine SG Stauskus Harris SF Hardaway Dawson PF Robinson Nix/Payne C Morgan/McGary/Horford

If they matchup like this, then advantage Michigan at PG, SG, and SF. Push at PF and C.

If the matchup is the quoted, then it stays the same at the quoted. Appling and Burke will be matched up head to head in the game though.

I always thought Harris was the SG and Valentine the SF. I'd put Harris as better than Stauskus, though not by muhc.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

I think that Harris is a more complete player right now, but in terms of production they are very similar. Stauskas's role on Michigan is to put up 10-15 pts per game with around 6-10 shots. And he's really good at that.

Harris is the better athlete, that is clear from watching him. Right now, Stauskus might be the better basketball player. I can't see anybody complaining because someone puts Harris slightly ahead of Stauskus or having them as a push or having Stauskus slightly ahead of Harris. It matters on what you are looking for.

Yea, MSU's 2-4 guys are kind of muddled (in terms of positions, not #2-4 scorers or something like that). Dawson can play the 2, 3 or 4. Harris can play the 2 or 3. Valentine can play 1, 2, 3 or maybe the 4 for some stretches.

Part of MSU's struggles (from my perspective) have a lot to do with guys not having defined roles yet.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

He will be. Right now it is a push, at best. For what Michigan runs and already has on the team for this year, give me Stauskus.

Does Dawson have the ball-handling to play the 2 or 3? He seems to lack the shooting range/touch also.

    How tall is Valentine?

Dawson has awful ball handling and no shooting touch right now.

Nice. Michigan has size for the first time in years.

    Stauskus is 6'6"
    Hardaway is 6'6"
    GR3 is 6'6"

The rotation the last couple of games is all 6'5" or taller, outside of PG.

Stauskas is SF and THJ is SG.

And I admit I haven't watched MSU this year except the KU game. I thought Harris was SG and Dawson was SF?

Ah, thank you. They are interchangeable really. Hardaway has more of an inside presence that a SF brings. Both are solid.

    1. Take four different schools to the NCAA (including trips to Sweet 16 and Elite 8)
    2. Win conference championships in four different leagues (B10, CAA, MAAC and MCC)
    3. Win the NIT
    4. Beat Tom Izzo (completing the sweep for the season)

To each their own. I will take the inside/outside game Robinson brings over Dawson, and Robinson is a better rebounder. Dawson has the edge right now in defense. The bigs I grouped together and would take Morgan over Nix with the pick and roll Michigan runs. Payne over McGary right now, but that could change as McGary adapts to the speed of the game.

Vogrich isn't in the rotation, he has been passed by Levert. He is getting mop up duty now. Shows the talent and depth of Michigan this year compared to last year. Vogrich saw some meaningful minutes throughout the year, now he is a bench warmer.

They are very interchangable. I think when Stauskas was still the 6th man he came in for Timmy at SG, but since Levert's RS has been burned he is the one that is coming in for THJ, and Stauskas took Vogrich's starting spot. Still not the lineup I'd like to see.

Personally, I think this lineup would be awesome:
    PG: Burke
    SG: THJ
    SF: GR3
    PF: Morgan
    C: Horford
    6th: Stauskas

I love the lineup of those 1st four mentioned and then one of Morgan/McGary/Horford. Each bring their own element to the team.

By your logic Dantonio has been a better coach than Hoke. Looks like Hoke may have redeemed himself this year though.
