I'd be more concerned that they gave up 88 points overall, and over 75 in regulation to a team that is not known as an good offense squad. The L itself isn't a huge deal; the lack of D is somewhat concerning.

Exactly. I've watched most of their games this year and they probably have more talent than anyone in the country. But they like to play wide open and are not very disciplined on defense. And Zeller, despite being talented, is not very big. He can be pushed around in the paint. IU had this game in hand but couldn't get defensive stops time and time again down the stretch even after Butler's two big guys fouled out. There is no excuse for that.

  • Don't know if this was discussed yesterday, but MSU's QB commit, Damion Terry, led his team to the PA State title last night. He was 13/24 for 317 yards and 2 TDs, rushed 12 times for 55 yards and a TD. Their opponent won the title last year 52-0; Terry's squad went up 24-0 in the 1st half and won 24-14. MSU RB/S/WR/OLB commit Delton Williams is also on the team.

We'll see how he does in college, but Terry finished his season completing exactly 2/3 of his passes (seriously, 222/333) for 3,599 yards, 50 TDs and either 7 or 8 INTs. He ended 2 TDs shy of the single season state TD record. He's a pass-first mobile guy; all indications are that he's going to compete for the #2 QB job right away.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

  • Anyone else watching Kent State - Utah State? I'm rooting hard for the MAC this bowl season.

I'm half watching it. I have the big TV on the Nebraska-Oregon game.

Nice. He seems like a good player.

Yea, guess MSU is admitting that they need an athletic upgrade at QB. Tyler O'Connor and Connor Cook are both more mobile QBs than Maxwell, but Terry is more of a Russell Wilson type (pass first, second and third, then run). Not saying he's as good as Wilson by any stretch, but that's more his game. Golson for ND would be another guy with a similar game.

That definitely seems to be the trend with QBs nowadays. You're seeing it with guys like Russell Wilson, RG3, Manziel (is Manziel pass first?), and even Aaron Rodgers. The game, especially the NFL, is becoming more and more pass first and mobility is needed because defenses are now focusing more on stopping the pass, which leads to more blitzing.

I don't get that. The best QB I can ever remember you having is Kirk Cousins. And you had back-to-back 11-win seasons with him. Why would you go away from that?

  • Nebraska is awful. And that is putting it nicely.

Stevens said he would only leave Butler if they kicked him out.

Izzo's two replacements coaching against each other today. We'll get one of them.

  • Is Michigan not done recruiting OL?

AllenTrieu: #Michigan has offered Brantford (Ontario) 2013 OT David Knevel. More here: http://t.co/CMBHkqOP

Still puzzles me why MSU never offered him.

MSU isn't a very good football program.. takes year of consistent winning to get to that level. - copemoney 1/22/13

Very. MSU will land a top coach. Izzo has built a top ten program with outstanding facilities. Hollis and izzo will land who they need and most likely who they want. Not sure about the Butler guy but I'm sure they'll approach Crean.
