Miami beat us I believe, correct?
I don't get this MSU team. Beat Kansas, struggle against Tuskeegee. Beat Texas, look like shit against Bowling Green for long stretches. I've only watched a handful, but I can see this is going to be a frustrating team to watch unless we get more consistent. What say you basketball experts? What do we need to be the team that beat Kansas and Texas and not be the team that played Tuskegee and Miami?

This is exactly what we saw in football. Losing Cousins and Day Day of course hurt because of the talent loss, but the leadership can't be overlooked while out on the field or court. It goes to show how important recruiting character is besides talent.

Losing Day Day was huge. That's exactly what the problem is. Everyone is standing around looking for Day Day to tell them what to do or just take over the game himself. Someone needs to step up and I'm not sure who that is. Maybe Nix. Maybe Appling. Maybe Harris.

The team in Memphis.
They already played the Heat once this year @Memphis and beat them. I believe we are #3 in the western conf right now, only behind the thunder and spurs.

This is MSU basketball in Nov/Dec. Our biggest problem is lack of a perimeter shooter to open up the bigs at the post. I'm pretty sure that Izzo prefers a great defense and a mediocre offense. Every game you can play great defense and you can rely on that defense. You can't always rely on your shooting, Illini will end up being a good example of that. I watched bits and pieces of the game against Mizzou, and they just chucked up 3 after 3 after 3. I didn't notice much of an inside game.
Free throw shooting is the part of the MSU game that has bugged me the most. I don't understand why our guards can't hit FT's right now. Harris needs to be an 80% FT shooter, Appling should be over 85%. Any of the players that are going to be relied upon at the end of games to bring the ball forward has got to be able to hit FT's.
Lets see what happens when conference play gets started. The good Izzo teams usually improve quite drastically from Nov/Dec into Jan/Feb.

UT is not a good team. KU clearly is. And IIRC you beat them without Trice, too. IMO you have the talent but have looked unfocused and disinterested in most of your games (KU being the exception). No energy. No leadership. No passion. Like the players are just going through the motions. Idk, maybe that will change in B10 play. You better hope so or it's going to be a frustrating season.

I completely disagree about the passion portion of your statement. I think that the reason the players sometimes look like you're disinterested is because they're actually not sure what to do because of a lack of leadership.
If Nix is the player that we saw against Texas, I think this team will be fine. I think that Nix and Appling need to co-lead for this team to reach the Elite 8.
Unfortunately, I think Izzo had to write off Byrd as a head case for the season.
