  • We have debated that gambling odds are slightly affected by "how much money comes in from one school," but I think we have settled on the fact that any effect that it has is small and comes AFTER the "smart money" sets the line. In other words, opening lines are lightly, if at all, affected by the crowd mentality. (see link for example)

Anyway, it looks like some oddsmakers (including http://sports.bovada.lv/sports-betting/football-futures.jsp) have:

UM as a 2/1 (and the favorite) to win the B10, 20/1 to win the national championship

MSU as 15/2 (and fourth likely) to win the B10, 60/1 to win the national championship

    Sounds about right to me.

I love how Michigan fans bring up the Alabama game constantly when Mississippi State absolutely destroyed the Wolverines in the bowl game that year.

That is because the RichRod era is definitively over.

    Peterklima

Rich rod was coaching then. Doesn't count. Seasons were not played, remember?

The seasons were played, they just aren't relevant to the current program. MSU, on the other hand, still has Dantonio. Its basic stuff man.

Wow. Your hoops national title is getting old and dusty like our 1989 one. It is now closer in time to the Michigan MBB title than it is to today.

Well I know our 1997 football title doesn't count because it wasn't undisputed like all of those nattys MSU football won in the last 40 years.

It sucks that the 2000 title is the only thing our basketball program has to show for itself lately................right?

  • Whatever helps you justify it. You shared your first football title in 20+ years, got smoked by Iowa, didn't even face one of the co-champs, and got sodomized in the bowl game.

Michigan faced the other two conference champs a total of 5 times, beating each one at least once.

Whatever else you feel better man.

MSU isn't a very good football program.. takes year of consistent winning to get to that level. - copemoney 1/22/13

I love that Michigan has never won the Coaches Poll. Ever.

Yes, because the Coaches Poll has proven itself to be the most reliable of all the major polls.

But, but, but, you guys always bring up MSU's lack of BCS Bowls. And isn't the Coaches Poll part of the BCS? panic

I think it's the harris not ap, but that still doesn't change the fact that the BCS has many other factors besides just the coaches poll.

I mean the coaches poll did place UM above MSU in the final poll and Moose seems to think its pretty important so I wouldn't knock it.

We made a lot of BCS games since 1997, but national titles are on another level. You know that.

I love when Michigan fans try to talk crap in hoops. It seriously makes me laugh.

I find it hilarious that there is all this talk of MSU being a "prestigious" bball program, because I look up the all-time series and that belongs to UM as well. lol

Yep.. The public sees Denard Robinson back and all these preseason magazines basically sucking off UM as a top 10 team.. thus, why they are the favorite..

I'm surprised MSU is so low (as much as +800 to win the B1G earlier this month)- but again, the public sees the loss of Cousins and its top 3 WRs and a RB and assumes it cannot sustain that level of success..

We'll find out soon enough, but MSU at anything over +500 to win the B1G will be an auto bet for me, if nothing else, for value alone

I brought it up to show that "everyone knows that" MSU was clearly worse than OSU and Wisconsin that year

    Didn't MSU manhandle Wisconsin??

It's really no surprise that UM fans don't give h2h results any credit.. much like if you ask UM fans who was better last year MSU or UM, most would reply UM

Well wait- if you say RR's years aren't relevant to the program, then why do UM fans constantly bring up the all time record vs MSU or the 6-4 L10 marks?

Clearly if UM fans are able to say the RR years aren't "relevant" to the program (even though 70% of the recruits still on the team were recruited by RR, which deems it a little relevant), then why can't MSU fans just discount every coach pre Dantonio?

    Double standard?

It's funny you bring that up considering 3 of UM's last 4 B1G titles were shared and two of those were shared by 2 teams and in one case, 2000, UM went 0-2 vs the other two teams it shared with..

So please stop with the shared/co/tri title thing and look in the mirror..

Why not focus on getting a B1G title in football- something UM hasn't done in nearly a decade
