"This is what you need to know about Michigan State's class: its second-best guy would be Michigan's 18th,"

It's sad that Rich Rod couldn't develop talent. Hoke came in and a number of guys who had disappointing careers had good careers. Now that Hoke is here, we recruit better and "coach up better".

It'd be fun if the answer was never.

It definetly shows how hard our schedule was.

Their best class would still be worse than our worst one by far.

That's not true if you go by recruiting rankings. MSU's 2009 class finished 17th nationally; UM has had a couple of classes in the 20s, including Hoke's first.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

You're going to put a class where we had a coaching change 3 weeks before NSD against us?

But how many players in the 2009 class were Michigan Men?

Apparently not a lot since there's only a couple of them left lol

Michigan's bracket looks like upsets waiting to happen (VCU, Colorado, Bucknell). Baylor/Marquette would be an interesting matchup for Michigan.

    MSU's bracket looks scary.

  • Ducksworth, and the other guys who are in the discussion about how 247 does their rankings. I think the college potential should trump pro potential in the rankings. Over the summer, I re-evaluated MSU's 2007 recruiting class using the "star" system, but basing it on college production; i.e., who had a 4-star "career". Not many of those guys were high draft picks (I think Cousins in the 4th round was the highest), but Greg Jones got a 5-star rating (3 time 1st team all-Conf. 2 time All American), and Cousins, Rucker, Cunningham and Foreman got 4-stars.

I guess I just care a lot more about how well a kid performs on the college field than the pros. If a guy is a great pro and drafted highly, then that's great, but to me the star rankings should be all about college potential and production.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Not a good measure of his impact, though. As a SDE this year, he had a huge impact. Easily our best DL. He occupied blockers and is one of the main reasons Jake Ryan had the season he did. He was much better under Hoke than he was under RR. Stats can be misleading.

It's always been a huge problem I've had with rankings. It's idiotic to consider pro potential over college worth. I've complained many times to JC and others, and we always get the answer "well that's how we always do it"

Uhhh yeah I get that it's how you've always done it, but that doesn't mean that it's right.

I would take your bracket over ours on a second. Teams I want to avoid in the NCAA for as long as possible, in order: Indiana, Duke, Florida, Louisville, Syracuse, Butler, Kansas.

Good list... I'd be OK going against Cuse.. typically they flame out early

I also think Gonzaga and Minnesota- hard nosed defensive team that rebound well

Oklahoma St/Temple, Gonzaga and Minnesota, and to a lesser extent Notre Dame scare me.

OSU's has 3 of those 7 in their bracket, and 2 of them in their half lol

Look- Burke is a great player and will be a lottery pick no doubt.

But hard to argue with the facts that Craft disrupted the flow that is Trey Burke in all 3 of their contests last year.

    5/11, 13 pts (road) 6/14, 17 pts (home) 1/11, 5 pts. (neutral)

If Burke is held to 17 points on Sunday- odds are OSU is winning

I think that part of these performances was due to the fact that everyone on the court knew that Burke would be taking a ton of shots (and a lot of the time he was the only one who could create one). This year OSU can't afford to put too much of a focus on Burke because one of Michigan's other guys will end up hurting them too much. I also think that Burke is way stronger this year which will help him with his matchup against Craft. When you watch Burke play you can tell the difference in terms of strength from this this year to last.

You serious Clark? Better numbers? WTF do better numbers matter when your defense can't stop a HS JV offense?

Roh played stand up linebacker his first year because GERG sucked dick and Roh was one of only a couple guys who could wrap a guy up that happened to run near him.

That's my feeling as well. Who cares if the guy is going to be drafted in the 2nd round based on potential? If that potential is never realized in college, then I'm going to feel really let down that the kid got a high 4-star rating.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.
