Oxford sucks. The campus is beautiful, but the town sucks balls. The population is like 20,000.

Every time the subject of Ole Miss comes up, one of the first things everyone says is how beautiful the campus is.

What about Oxford sucks? Is it dirty and crime infested or is it lame in the eyes of a 20-something?

Eh, new coach who can sell that they're "up and coming" after getting them back to a bowl game in year 1. That and Rabid mentioned that 3 of their 5-stars have a previous connection to Ole miss

Come on man. MSU had that under Dantonio and the 2008 class was the lowest rated class of the MD era (1 4-star, epic bust Fred Smith). Ole Miss hasn't won a league championship since 1963. They've won exactly one division title, 2003, under Manning, which was actually a tie and they didn't even make the SEC CCG. They're a half step above Vanderbilt and Kentucky in the SEC, maybe only a quarter-step.

Seriously, this is the equivalent of Minnesota pulling a top 10 class with a 5-star from FL leading the way.

Went there once to check out Faulkner's grave and Rowan Oak.

I just found it really ordinary. The main circle in the town has a few old statues and an old court house a famous book store and a few old buildings with porches. That part is okay, but you can walk around the damn thing and see it all in like a half hour.

I did not like the town at all, and spent most of the time in the pool at the hotel. I think the delta in Mississippi and Memphis have a lot more to offer, but I was mostly down there to listen to blues and country music.

I think you'll see that the fan base is definitely not united on the subject.

  • Mgoblog did a breakdown of 5* RBs. Of particular interest to me was that since Rivals and Scout came along, Green is the 5th back to be listed at the #1 RB on both services (Mgoblog says 6th but list 4 other guys).

    The others are,
    Adrian Peterson
Joe McKnight, averaged 6.7 ypc in college
Bryce Brown, headcase in college but showed his talent for the Eagles when McCoy went down. Has to fix his fumbling habit.
    Marcus Lattimore

    Damn good list right there.

This is honestly one of the most surprising developments that I've seen in recruiting. They've had one ten win season in like the last 40 years and they're beating out the SEC's best for some of the top players in the country. I mean Ole Miss has been an average football program for a really long time. They're doing something right down there.

  • Uhh, FWIW, did you know 247 changed their 2012 rankings a bit?

    http://michiganstate.247sports.com/Season/2012-Football/Commits

Fennell was most certainly a 2-star on signing day, as was Ezra Robinson. Pretty sure Kieler had an "80" rating too and the TEs were an 85 and 86. Anyways, MSU's composite moved up to 31st nationally and 4th in the Big 10. Not too bad, especially since MSU was mocked for having around the 40th best class on NSD last year.

UM is at 9th in the composite, FWIW.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Did the 247 ranking change or is the composite ranking now updated? I know JC said they were going to go back and update the composite rankings since they didn't have them in place at that time.

Yea, no guarantees with any kid but most of the top programs in the nation wanted him in their backfield.

Well, like I said, I know for a fact Fennell was a "2-star" on 247's regular rankings, because people were ripping on "MSU's 2-star Canadian DT". Now he's got an 83 rating and is the #6 player on Oregon. Kings was an 84 on NSD and Robinson was a 77 or 78. There are at least a couple of guys who moved up the rankings since I looked last Feb.

Composite certainly was updated as well, but MSU's recruiting class definitely got some post-signing day boosts. Weird. Certainly no one in the top 247 or anything like that, but I'm certain MSU had more than 1 2-star according to 247 in the '12 class.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Yea, there's something crazy going on there. Then again, remember when Zook pulled 'Regis Benn and Martez Wilson out of his rear a few years ago? Never got caught doing anything wrong . . . so Freeze could just be a hot name. That happens from time to time . . . but that level of recruiting all of a sudden seems a bit crazy to me.

    That's just goofy.

They could potentially pull in like five or six, 5* players. I mean that doesn't happen to teams that aren't in Florida, Texas, or California, with the exception of Alabama.

Rocky, if you'd like to get the fanbase's opinion on a possible Fab5 appearance, read the sidebar post about Jalen on MGoBlog.

I think you'll see that the fan base is definitely not united on the subject.

The Fab 5 is back ... or at least four of them. People need to get over it. How the Chris Webber thing plays out, who knows, but you are going to see more and more official inclusion of the Fab 5 into Michigan basketball history after 2013. The Great Brandon has hinted at this more than once and little rumors of things that are being planned are everywhere. As for Jalen Rose's idea of courtside seats at a 2013 NCAA game including Chris Webber? I highly doubt it. UM could not have any official hand in it and I doubt Webber is all that interested either. But you might see some or all of the other four at some games. Jimmy King and Ray Jackson have already been present at regular season games and I'm pretty sure Jalen will be part of the Gameday crew in Bloomington next Saturday.

Fennel get his bump after MSU let their dline coach go? 247 expecting a coaching? We know they tie a recruits rating into where they go and the coaches there.

And 1 more. Ole Miss is the heavy favorite for 5*, #1 overall recruit Robert Nkemdiche. Some are saying that they will flip 5*, #2 overall recruit Chris Jones from Mississippi State also. That would be the top 2 DEs in this class. It is like Ole Miss is playing NCAA 2013 and they have set recruiting at the JV level.
