Funny how you fail to mention the extra second that was left on the clock, to be able to run that "final" play.

As I tell my sparty friends every time they bring it up. When a brand new official has to be paid to run the scoreboard in all Big Ten games, starting the very next season...you know it was a BS call.

I wont say anymore- cuz you guys totally out played us for most of that game. But with a unbiased scoreboard operator- we win that game.

I was in E.Lansing myself for that game. I didnt go to the game- but I tailgated with friends. Thats when I truly realized you guys at MSU know how to party while tailgating. The very 1st ice luge I ever saw in my life. I wore a Michigan sweatshirt in enemy territory. No fights- but close a couple times. It appears (at that time) all spartans believed anyone with a Michigan shirt on were bandwagon jumpers. I kept hearing "band the wagon". So I had to ask my friends WTF these drunk kids were sayin that to me for. I just laughed it off- cuz I have been going to Michigan football games since 1988. Needless to say- at the end of that game I was in shock at my friends house. I didnt even know what to say or how to react. My team had just been robbed by a clock operator. I did wear my M sweatshirt out to the bar that night- cuz I told my friends I would, win or lose. Not one person said a word to me about it the whole night. I think I got respect, by actually wearing it out after a loss. I actually met a few new friends that night.

    Anyway...that was quite the ramble...

I don't have a link (? maybe somebody does?confused) but I believe that the Big Ten officials reviewed it and the ball hit the ground before the time ran out.

Instant replay didnt start in college football until like '04 or '05. Nice try tho

Like I said: the rule was changed during the very next off season. Without any kind of vote I may add. That only happens when something was F'd up big time.

I gave MSU credit for outplaying Michigan for most of that game. That's all they'll ever get from me, when I talk about that game

Where in his post did he say Instant Replay? It is possible for Big Ten officials to review the play after the game by watching a replay just like you or I. Which happened but I to cannot find a link right now.

I thought he was talking instant replay- my bad if not. But yes- of course the ball hit the ground before the clock ran out. Thats cuz 0:01 stayed on the clock forever. That was thanks to the MSU time keeper. Maybe officials did review it after the game, like you say. But it's not like they were just gonna change the outcome of the game or something. BUT- Next thing you know- no school is allowed to use their own scoreboard operators anymore. A official has to be in change of it starting the following season. It was because of that game.

Like I said: the past is the past. Nuff said!

We could argue this forever, but it was objectively proven that there was time on the clock. The clock doesn't hit zero until all the time has run out. So the 1 second is really from 1 to .0000000001. It was in that split-second that the ball was spiked.

What a wild game. MSU had the best 2 players on the field with Rogers and Duckett. UM definitely had the better team.

Amazing how times have changed since then; MSU's DTs were both in the 270s and weren't considered small.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

While I won't get into the 1 second game too much. (It annoys me when MSU fans argue about the Stanton '05 game, so I do my best not to argue the 1 second game).

While you may very well be correct, and if you break the film down and time things perfectly to a T that there should be some time remaining. That's just now how the game of football operates, the clock officials do not react in hundredths of seconds. If there was a non-biased official running the clock that day the game would have ended there.

And with all that said, we lost the game, end of story. I've moved on :D

Edit: Fixed the stanton game year :D

Yea, I don't bring up '04 or '05, the "if Stanton wasn't hurt" or "if MSU had a K" games. Ls are Ls; winning teams make their own "luck", which tends to just be superior talent and coaching. Luck would be a low pass bouncing off someone's foot, into the air and to an open WR 6 yards ahead of the nearest defender or into the arms of a DB with a clear path to the endzone. The rest is preparation, skill and execution.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

I'm sorry there is no way that Lyles ends up being better than Ross or Jenkins-Stone. Not a chance.

Lyles is a low BCS prospect.

Well, the analyst did say that, but I doubt it ends up happening. He is getting a ton of interest, so it wouldn't surprise me if he moved to a high 3-star or low 4-star. His recruitment seems almost identical to Ed Davis a year ago (they're even the same size, 6'4 215). Strong SMSB performance. Offer from MSU and some other B1G schools (Iowa, Wisky, etc.). Commit to MSU (hopefully) in a week or so.

    The last 9 games

    2001: Clock Game

2002: Bobby William's response to whether he lost the team : "I don't know". UM win, 49-3 (I won't feel like the rivalry is evening out until we administer a similar beatdown)

2003: Chris Perry 51 carry game for 204 yards. A sack of Navaare and subsequent 60+ yard fumble return makes it 27-20 UM in the 4th, but MSU couldn't convert a last second TD drive. UM wins 27-20

2004: Stanton goes down injured after MSU is up 17-7 in the 2nd Q. To that point he had nearly 200 yards of total O. 3OT game that UM wins 45-37

2005: Battle of the Terrible Kickers. Both Ks miss a chance to give their team the lead, tied 31, late in the 4th. MSU's K misses a 30-something FG in OT. Rivas redeems himself with a similar chip-shot, UM wins 34-31 OT.

2006: UM's rush D is the best the NCAA has seen in a long time. An early INT of Henne is ruled incomplete on the first drive, and UM never looked back. 37-13 W for Blue.

2007: MSU is up 24-14 with 8 min left in the 4th. Henne leads 2 late 4th Q scoring drives and UM wins 28-24. Bike Hart runs his mouth afterwards, and the Curse of Dantonio is born

2008: MSU's first win in AA since 1990, and no 2-pt conversion controversy. MSU wins 35-21, and UM is given a "gift" TD on an incorrect pylon ruling by the officials.

2009: UM comes in ranked #25 and 4-0, MSU 1-3. After seeing a 20-6 4th Q lead evaporate under the September Heisman specialist Tate Forcier. MSU's terrible pass D comes through, as a tipped pass in the endzone is caught by maligned MSU CB Chris L. Rucker. After a pitch is fumbled by Glenn Winston, a subsequent completion to BJ Cunningham sets up 3rd and 9 from the 24. Larry Caper runs into MSU history with a 5 broken-tackle TD run to win it, 26-20 MSU.

2010: Both teams come into the game unbeaten for the first time since 1999. After building a 10-7 lead, UM surrenders 24 straight points and ultimately loses 34-17, the largest MSU margin of victory over the Wolverines since 1967 (A 34-0 MSU beatdown of UM).

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

  • I have to say, I don't get all these camp offers and rankings going up during camp. What has always separated the men from the boys is pads. There are a TON of "T-Shirt All-Americans" but when the pads go on and the contact begins, some guys fade away into oblivion.

I realize these camps and combines have become big business and they're a great way for coaches to see a bunch of kids in one place at one time. But I'm from the old school and I'm more impressed with a guy who earned his ranking and praise by what he did on the football field his junior/senior year rather than how well he performed in shorts and tshirt.
