I'm sorry to hear about your family. I couldn't imagine having to go thru something like that at that age.

Yes, in my opinion, the only record that matters is the record for when you went to school and since you've graduated. Up to that point you are simply choosing a school to cheer for. I could choose to be an Alabama fan and brag about their national championships.

No, I did not play for MSU

No, I don't get extra points for being an alum. I get the benefit of having UM fans talk shit about my university when their primary affiliation with the school is liking their colors.

If you really wanted, I could get you my transcript. I can't imagine you care this much.

See above as to why this matters.

Thanks for the sympathy but it's not needed. I don't think your more of a fan then me but it's fairly obvious you think opposite. I think jay z said it best when he said, "what you eat don't make me shit!"

What makes you think I give a fuck what happened back in the 1900s when the games weren't even played in East Lansing?

That all-time record has done what for you recently?

It seems to help's Michigan get recruits. It's nice to see recruits mention it, it holds some value to the recruits, whether sparty disregards it ot not.

You should go back and look at Michigan State's opponents, which include Chicago YMCA (1928), Wayne St.(1937), Grinnel (multiple years), Hillsdale, (multiple), Adrian (multiple), Carnegie Tech, Manhattan, and Cornell......of Iowa.

Seems to me, the argument always goes like this: S: 3-0 over Michigan in the last 3 years. M: 3-0 vs. Rich Rod* fixed it S: Most of Michigan's wins came before WWII against teams like Alma. M: State played Chicago YMCA, and all the others from back then are included in your historical win/loss totals. S: Walmart Wolverine. M: Little brother.

You guys constantly cherry pick Ws and Ls. You should be used to it.

I'm making a plea to both sides to end that BS. Keep the historical records and whatever streak the current teams are on (Feel free to bring up 6-0 in the middle of that streak, we should be ok to bring up 3-0). The rest is just cherry picking and the debate devolves as you pointed out.

    Back on the field/recruiting. . .

    1) Huge props on Pipkins. We wanted him bad. I hope this gives State a great shot with O'Brien, though I know he's a 3-tech (Godin moving inside?)

    2) Special Teams issues would have been more at the forefront if your D wasn't as bad as it was last year. Not having a proven P through the first 4 games can be a problem, especially vs. ND. You never know if a kid's got ice-water in his veins until he lines up for a big K/P. I've seen some frosh do great, and others face-plant. Just don't know, but that's now another unknown (at least for the first 4 games).

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

thank you for the complement and as for Danny O'brien i think he will either go to michigan (he has said many times he thinks they will take a second DT if it is him) or he'll go to tennessee. as for godin he will stay outside and play the roll that Ryan Van Bergen currently plays.

    2) the special teams will be handled by incoming freshman Matt Wile who as a senior average 42 ysrds/perpunt in contrast to our current punter who averaged 43 as a freshman so it will be interesting but definitely a big loss

Sooo . . . first fall camp reports are coming in. MSU's starting DL now looks like this:

WDE: Soph. Will Gholston, 6'7 283,

DT: RS JR. Jerel Worthy, 6'3 310

NT: RS JR. Anthony Rashad White, 6'2 316

SDE: RS JR. Tyler Hoover, 6'7 290

Other than Worthy, the DL hasn't shown a ton (Hoover had a couple good games last year), but that's a pretty intimidating look. Average weight is 299.75. roflmao.

I have no idea if they'll live up to the hype that seems to be building around them, but that's the biggest college DL I've seen in a while.

Michigan's Dline averages 291.5 lbs, and that is with 251lb Craig Roh figured into the averages.

I assume you expect Will Campbell to start?

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

    SpartanRocky

  • There's almost a 95% chance Campbell starts. He's been making a lot of strides this offseason according to Martin. It's about time for him to live up to that 5* ranking!

At this point, yes, most of us expect him to be the starter.

Yes, he's slimmed down a lot and is finally acting like he's motivated. This staff has made him their top priority.

  • And with three DL coaches, that's a very high priority. Lots of focus on the DL, especially BWC

Side note: Stonum being gone is going to suck for you guys this season.

I don't think so. Hoke provides input, but allows his coaches to coach.

It's going to suck, but Roundtree/Hemingway/Odoms are just going to have to step up.

I'm really hoping that Je'Ron Stokes will show a lot this year.

There's the potential for that to happen with the DL but the coaches all seem to be working in unison, something the last staff really struggled with.

RE Stonum: If there was one position we could have afforded to lose someone it's at WR. The drop off there should be minimal with Hemingway, Roundtree, Odoms and the other WRs to fill the void.

Agreed, I'm not too worried about losing Stonum this year because of the depth.

But I'm really going to miss him on returning kicks. But I think Dileo will get his shot.

Yeah hopefully Dileo can return punts/actually field them because that part of our return game has been horrendous.

  • Question for Rocky and other MSU fans- who are realistic DT targets if you miss out on O'Brien (as looks likely right now). Clark? Others?

    Big M

  • And it could easily be a blessing in disguise IMO

We still have stable WRs for this year in Hemingway, Roundtree, and Odoms (and Dileo, Stokes, Jackson, etc), but this just makes it so that we don't lose 3/4 of our top targets next year. We would've lost Odoms, Hemingway, and Stonum, but now we'll have Roundtree and Stonum as a very solid 1-2 in 2012. Otherwise, our 2012 WR corps would've been dreadful. Just trying to put a silver lining on it lol
