Citing history, as always. That's the Michigan way. It's not even worth the argument, I can go on with my life being content with the fact that you have currently won zero of the last four meetings, despite having better recruiting classes according to internet websites.

But hey, I'm also completely content with having Leveon Bell, rather than say... Kevin Grady? Weird how that works.

    roflmao

MSU being one of four B1G teams to never play BCS bowl is just citing history.

It sounds more to me like UM is standing in MSU's way. For two years in a row, you have narrowly missed out on the chance to go to your first Rose Bowl in over 20 years. And this year, as you correctly point out, that road to Pasadena almost certainly goes through us. If we win the head-to-head in Ann Arbor, you will likely again come up short. The past four will be almost meaningless if you lose this year. This is the one that really counts.

Calling the past 4 years meaningless is dumb. They stung, there is no doubting that. What I don't get about MSU fans is they're regarding our positive recruiting momentum as something we've had all along and they've overcome the whole time. Maybe, but if you really take a look at RR's classes you'll notice that while he did recruit "high star" classes, they never addressed needs properly. This is blatantly obvious when you look at our current line depth. To top it off, I don't think they were really developing players worth a damn. I think the former defensive staff just flat out could not coach, or develop players. Even if you have talent, having them lost on the field without a clue where to be doesn't make it worth a damn. Hoke on the other hand is recruiting higher ranked classes, but with bulk. He wants to play grind it out, smash mouth football eventually, though he knows he doesn't have the personnel to run that system quite yet. He is going to systematically adapt as he gets his players. I also don't think this means Dantonio is going to slouch, but I don't think he'll get all the pro style talent he desires now that RR is gone. It'll be interesting to see what happens, but I'm cautiously optimistic about our future. I don't envision a game breaking 2012 season, but I think 2013 could be a big year for UM and the B1G in general. That being said I think MSU is probably the odds on favorite to win the B1G in 2012, but that game in Ann Arbor is probably going to determine the legends division winner unless both of us have dismal performances elsewhere.

We have won 4 in a row. How is it that MSU would likely Come up short vs UM?

One thing I think you have skirted around is that Michigan is returning to bringing in elite talent (Bama level), the likes that you even say yourself that MSU can't be expected to compete against. Your caveat to that is it takes elite recruits and elite coaching. What you don't want to look at right now is Hoke turned Ball State and SDSU into winners and then took a Michigan team that won 15 games combined in 3 years into an 11 game winner in his first year. The man can flat out coach. Now his players have a second year in the system and from this point forward the upperclassmen will be teaching the younger kids on the field along with the coaches. MSU has that in place already, stability is huge for programs.

Where would you put the team that has represented the B1G in the Rose Bowl the last year?

Michigan has always had better recruiting classes than MSU. Yet MSU has still won 4 in a row with, according to the recruitniks on here, inferior talent.

    Why would that be?

Coaching change and scheme change blew up what Michigan had established. 3 wins, 5 wins and 7 wins show that overall Michigan sucked ass because of those changes.

Michigan is changing back, the best recruits of the Midwest coming to Michigan shows that, and the 11 wins is the on the field prove it.

Edit: I am not saying MSU can't keep winning, but the landscape in AA is changing for the better.

Yet MSU still beat a "good" Hoke team last year. If MSU wins next year will it still be because UM is not back? What if it's another 4 years, UM is still "down"?

I'd be willing to wager it won't be another 4 years. I also don't think either team is going to break off a stretch of 3 straight anytime soon either. I think the home team will take the majority of the games in the next decade, but that's just me.

Then MSU beat a solid team, just like this year.

What if Michigan wins this year? What if Michigan rolls off another 6 game win streak? Will it be back to SOS?

What if games are so fun, aren't they? /s

Carr did leave the cupboard bare, RR and Greg Robinson were terrible coaches for Michigan. Those are reasons.

To be fair though, my posting is mostly fluff...Spartanrocky has more stats and research in his stuff. I'm more into what Colbert calls "Truthiness". That means I leave the thinking at the door and go more off what my gut tells me.

I would definitely add you to that list. I meant more at that moment than in general.

MSU's average rank for the previous 5 classes (before Dantonio was hired) was 48.6.

If Carr left the cupboard bare (with mostly Top 10 classes), how would you describe the cupboard in EL when Dantonio took over?

My bad. I just invented those excuses. I have never heard them used at any time in the past. Clearly, bare cupboards have never been used to describe the football program in Ann Arbor...at any time...during the last 2 coaching changes.

Please accept my apology for disparaging your cupboards.

Bare as in little experience and a lot of attrition. But to answer your question, not good.

Yours is worse you can't seem to remember 4 months ago and how far apart the two teams on the field were.

You've fallen into this horrible dementia and only recycle old stories from the 70's and the good ol days of Bo and Woody.

We'll have your diaper changed twice a day and bring the local grade school in to entertain you folks at night.

When you've lost 2 in the first month next year it will be great foe you as you recall the undefeated season of 1911

Well he wasn't talking about them. And I don't understand how RR's recruiting was so good when MSU fans always make fun of the "short midgets" that RR recruited.
