I'm glad we have the week off to further work on our depleted OL. I actually saw us open up a few impressive holes against OSU's DL so I do think they're improving. How'd your back up look? I didn't watch the Minnesota game but I'm assuming he got some reps.

Devin Gardner is gonna be a great QB here. Bigger than Denard with a stronger arm. He's really fast and a great athlete. You'll probably see a lot of formations with both of them on the field together because they're two of our best athletes.

I'm glad you do too! Look to possibly come out flat by having a week off!

    Agreed.

It's gonna be interesting to watch how Borges deploys these two from here on out. I think we've only seen a hint of how creative he could get with two legitimate threats at the QB position. Especially when you have a player like Robinson who's extremely versatile because of his athletic ability.

I wish we wouldn't have done it.

Now MSU has two weeks to learn our ENTIRE playbook (since they are super geniuses, you know since they can learn this stuff by seeing one or two plays out the formation).

  • Let's play a game of what you got right about UM and MSU so far, and what you got wrong.

    On UM:

I was right that the offense would be more spread than pro style.

I was right that the defense would be vastly improved.

I was wrong that Denard would be much improved as a passer.

    On MSU:

I was right that their OL was a mess.

I was right that Cousins is not a great QB when pressured.

It looks like I was wrong about their DL, though they only really impressed me against OSU.

I was wrong in general about their D- thought it would be no better than solid/decent.

Yes, that way with a win in Spartan Stadium Michigan would be firmly entrenched in the top 10.

I don't think we should judge Denard as a passer yet. Apparently he got an abscess removed from his elbow on Friday before the game, so people are saying that could be a reason why his throwing has been off. It was much improved last weekend shrug

Fowler is coming back and our OL looked improved...I think you'll see Cousins play better with a second receiver option. I think Roushar is improving the offensive calling too. He's going to tailor suit it to our OL situation, which wasn't the case against ND. I think that should improve the play of Cousins as well.

Hoover should be back to so our D is going to be better. I don't think we are an elite D like Alabama or LSU, but we are damn good. There's no denying it.

You guys deserve the ranking, you're undefeated and a bunch of teams lost ahead of you. Plus we want to spoil your season so that's why we care.

Denard just doesn't have very good mechanics when throwing the ball. Removing abscess isn't going to make him Joe Montana or Dan Marino.

No it's not, but it could at least give that offense another dimension. I wonder how much we'll blitz Michigan. We'll have to force Denard to bail out with his arm.

I think that's a good question...maybe Spartanrocky can give analysis as to how we stopped him last year. I don't think we blitzed him that much. It was more of a contain D. I think the line backers just hung back and when he started running they were in position to make a stop.

Yep. Keep everything in front of you, don't go for the splashy play, make him beat you with his arm. If the DL can collapse the pocket, fine. If not, fine, just have the LBs played disciplined. We didn't blitz a ton against tOSU initially; only when it was clear they couldn't pass did we pin our ears back. We aren't a blitz happy team, and our pass D is better for it.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Improved offensive calling for MSU? Against the 2 teams with talent level that is equal or better than MSU and MSU has amassed a total of 20 points. Not the offensive juggernaut we were told they would be.

Way to down grade our success, you're a blind homer that hates all things MSU. Roushar called a better game against OSU than against ND. I think there was a bit of a learning curve for him at the position, and I think he's improved week to week.

Fowler should help us put some more points on the board.

The OL looked improved? Over what? The racked up around 50 yards rushing in non-garbage time and converted 3 of 15 3rd/4th downs. Only improvement is OSU had no sacks, but MSU threw almost exclusively short passes with no dropback (and OSU still got pressure). The Spartan offense looked terrible against a defense that gave up about 23 points to bad Toledo and Miami teams, so how did the Oline improve?

MSU scored less on OSU than they usually give up, and that is with a somewhat weak OSU schedule to date. So, MSU's offense underperformed compared to the mediocre teams that played OSU so far.

How has the offense playcalling improved or been something MSU fans can be positive about?

lmao, I'm blind, maybe I need a pair of your sparty green colored glasses. MSU scored enough points to win, and that is what is needed, but 2.3 ypc isn't saying much.

Why no respect for Toledo? Didn't they beat UofM in the Big House or does that not count because Rich Rod was your coach?

It counts, but it is irrelevant to now. You can't have it both ways steveschneider. You try and play the rational MSU fan bit, then you spit BS at all other teams. Michigan looks improved, MSU's defense looks very good. Why is this so hard for both fan bases to admit.
