Look at his combined stats vs. MSU and get back to me on that. If you're using the MSU-UM game as your sample size to show that Gholston isn't that good, then we should look at how other players do in that game and judge them accordingly, like Robinson.

I'm not the one making the argument that Gholston isn't good. I'm just saying that it's hard to justifiably make that argument against Denard.

So he compiled 70 tackles, 16 TFL and 5 sacks by being unblocked all year long? Teams really should have learned to at least put a water boy on him.

Funny enough, I recall seeing lots of mock drafts for next year with Gholston a first rounder...yet not many with Denard up there. All those draft experts must be just as dumb as MSU fans. lol

Ehh, it helped having an All-B1G Caliber DT right next to him.

Probably so. It was also his first full season at the position; it's not as though last year was the kid's ceiling, physically or technique-wise.

You're free to make whatever statements you want about him. The play on the field will dictate who's right and wrong, like everything else we discuss.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

For many of us, participating in a message board with such riveting topics as.... Name a song you're embarrassed to admit you like What does spam taste like Spray tanning is a health risk And the best kind of tea for iced tea .....is even a bigger waste of life.

So, to each their own, right?

tRCMB is entertaining as hell, that is all I have to say on that. But in the 16 months I've been on here I have posted 180 times. How about you? I don't think there is any way to look it up, but I bet you have more posts on tRCMB than I do.

Whole point is that you can't just use 1 game as evidence that a player "just isn't that good". If I only showed you tape of Denard vs. MSU the last 2 years and that was all you ever saw of Shoelace, would you think he's a dynamic offensive threat? Probably not.

Obviously confining Denard's career to his performance vs. MSU is not doing him justice . . . just like confining Gholston's career to his performance vs. UM is not going to do him justice. That was the point.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Those stats are mainly a product of Narduzzi's blitzes and Gholston being unblocked on them. You could have smilar stats. You wouldn't have to beat a block either. You watched the games. You know how good Gholston is when he is blocked.

Actually the point I have seen made is that Gholston isn't good getting off blocks and that his TFL come of backside pursuit and the such where he has a free release to the ballcarrier.

Gholston is a great athlete, and with improved technique, he may show that he is a great football player this year and beyond.

I think you missed the point. The Gholston video is simply one game, but similar to all his games. I am not using one game to prove a point, just one game as an example of the evidence from all the games. I have watched Gholston "highlight" videos on youtube. A lot of him just not being blocked. If MSU builds their D around him this year, look for a step back.

Good player. Singular. Worthy was the only really good player on last year's D. Maybe Robinson, but mostly for his leadership. Without those 2, MSU's D is going to crumble.

    Sincerely,

    UM

Watch a lot of DEs. You'll see them being unblocked multiple times per game. You're acting like Gholston is the only DE to come off the line unblocked. It happens multiple times every game. Some DEs can capitalize on it; most can't, which is why 70 tackles and 16 TFL gets you 2nd team All Big 10 honors and pre-season All-Conf. recognition.

On top of that, MSU brings him on stunts; he whipped UGA's LG to get his 2nd sack on Murray in the bowl.

MSU's oline led the way to one of the worst rushing attacks in the B1G last year. 9 of the 10 in the two deep return off of that oline, MSU will have the best rushing attack in the B1G this year.

Just because they are in a mock draft this early, doesn't mean that's where they end up. I don't recall, but was RGIII in the first round mock drafts this time last year?

For the record, any fun I get isn't from a "HA HA MSU CAN'T KEEP THEIR COMMITMENTS" angle.

Frankly, and I honestly mean this, if he had committed to Michigan in the exact same circumstances I think the same thing would have happened. Getting a kid from the South who A- has no ties to Michigan B- never visited Michigan C- is getting offers from the local powers is 9 times out of 10 not going to end up there.

I just never understood why most MSU fans didn't seem to get that.

FWIW I'm in the "I don't follow recruiting" camp. I just know how much you guys have been looking forward to this, and how intolerable tRCMB becomes afterwards.

What are you talking about? A "non-issue"?

Honestly, you could see this one coming, I am just surprised Coach D accepted his committment in the first place. I doubt you ever see Coach D accept a committment without a kid visiting the campus first with how this kid burned him.

Plenty of time left in this cycle and a ton of solid players still out there, signing day is 8 months away.

No, we got it and accepted it.
