No one is mad about Richardson going to UM he is a Cass kid with a UM offer. Kugler defiantly hurt, but I didn't give two shits about the other two

What about that MSU fan who created a twitter account posing as a Michigan fan trying to get him to go to the SEC.

I'd say that perhaps that MSU fan was insane. No, not perhaps, I'd say he's full blown out of his mind crazy as a bat.

That MSU fan is an embarrassment. I wish he wasn't.

We get it. You don't have much interest in recruits and commits. But this IS a recruiting message board and a lot of people follow it like a hobby. Some people are passionate about their hobby. To each their own, right?

I guess. To each their own. Carry on, some kid is going to make a hat dance. A kid who hasn't tackled, blocked, thrown a ball or caught one. If Jimmy Joe Jones Harris Drake commits to MSU tomorrow, I'm all over the interwebs about how he's the final piece in our NC dreams. Forget about it.

I don't know, I will send any that pop up your way tomorrow to help you with that question.

Sure, ask him to explain why he could be that excited over a 17 year old boy saying he likes MSU the best. I'd love to hear it. Oh, and then he could explain how this kid is going to win so many games for MSU because, well, because we just know how these kids turn out.

Good luck to all these kids and the hope they represent to so many. I wish them success and growth at the next level, but understand how incredibly hard and incredibly tough it is to play there, let alone have these unbelieveable expectations on them before they step on campus. School first, it's your real meal ticket.

  • Has everyone stopped for a second to realize how well both of our schools are doing on the recruiting trail? Regardless of rating, I think we can all agree that any offers accepted at this point are Plan A type guys, for both programs. I'm not sure how many more players UM is going to take in 2013, but I imagine they're almost done. I know MSU will only be taking 5'ish more, of which I would guess at least 2 or 3 will probably be 'wait till the end' types. That's pretty impressive this early in the process. It means both Hoke and Dantonio can get a solid start on 2014, and maybe even some 2015 schollies. Add in the near certainty that a highly touted 2014 player will kick off one of our teams' recruiting class with a bang tonight, and I think we've got a lot to be proud of, collectively. I commend both coaching staffs and cannot wait till September!!

I agree that both schools are recruiting well this off-season but it seems as though the pace of recruiting has been highly accelerated. For example, in the Big Ten alone there are eight teams that already have 10 or more commitments with almost a half a year to go in this recruiting season. It seems as though football recruiting is becoming more and more like how recruiting is in basketball where commitments have to be be projected a few years down the road.

And I think that's actually not a good thing, because football relies a lot more on physical development than basketball.

I agree completely. How do you project an offensive tackle when they're a freshman or sophomore in high school?

There are plenty of MSU fans that do, as they should to a point. Personally, I would be concerned if MSU had taken 20 some kids with Michigan offers while only landing 3 or 4 with MSU offers since Hoke was hired. As it stands now, I like where Michigan is headed in getting the vast majority of the kids with common offers.

Oh, and this isn't to say MSU is going to go 6-6, losing to Michigan every year. Dantonio is a good coach with a good staff and they will continue to compete. But as you and other MSU fans have told us over and over again, he is also a great evaluator of talent, he just can't sell the program like Hoke can for Michigan.

Again, it's UM fans trying to make it a big deal that Hoke is getting kids with MSU offers. We don't care.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

It may be a nice accomplishment, but grabbing 6 of the top 10 in-state for 2013 and 8 of the top 10 in 2012, including 4 of the top 5, is probably a better accomplishment.

    Who said it wasn't?

He is a great H.S. player. We can all kind of exhale about what he'll do in college. I wish him well and success, but face it, it's a crap shoot. I'd be more comfortable if he'd caught a pass or made a basket at the D1 level first. That's just me.

Basketball is much easier to predict since all the top kids play each other all summer, easy to judge talent. For example, whoever gets Jabari Parker can feel pretty confident they'll have one of the top players in the country the year he is there.

  • The recruiting hype gets so so so so old, it's all that the Walvies seem to want to talk about, and all that the RCMB wants to piss its pants over. In reality, in football, as long as you're recruiting at an Iowa level or above you have a good chance to regularly challenge for the conference championship, because you'll be able to out talent the lower level teams (Minny, ILL sort of, IU, Purdue, NW) and win at a good rate against the middle and upper crust teams in any given year.

If you believe that there is any measurable difference between a mid-high 3star and a low-mid 4 star, you're just stupid, ESPECIALLY when it comes to linemen. And double especially when you look at the success of the Iowas, MSUs, and Wisconsins of the world and see that coaching stability and system effectiveness wins games more than scout.com national championships.

Yes, Dantonio looks like he will have his class almost done by the time the season starts. Which proves what I said all along- the notion that Dantonio was intentionally waiting and taking his time was a bunch of crap.

I was making the point that Dantonio will wait for camps at least. And I wasn't wrong. We probably weren't going to take a TE this class but Chmura looked so good that Dantonio offered anyway. We have a few SS prospects we're in on but i'm thinking that all our trench guys will come from camp evaluations (Demetrious Cooper was offered after SMSB and his teammate Khairi Bailey may also get an offer if the staff feels he can project to the 3-tech).

I don't think anyone said that Dantonio was literally banking scholarships and would not accept commits just because he wanted to wait for later, but camp evaluation is one of the reasons we have been so successful in player development lately. Tape only tells you so much.

    Nope

Edit: Not trying to be snarky either. If you look back over the past 3-4 recruiting cycles, the only year that MSU was landing Plan A guys across the board was 2009. Even in 2010, outside of Gholston and Bullough, just about everyone else was a later commit. State really wanted Latwan Anderson over Isaiah Lewis, and Andrew Donnel (Iowa) and Andrew Nowell (tOSU) over Burkland.

Heck, State wanted Rob Bolden (PSU) and Gardner (UM) over Boisture and only offered Boisture after Bolden's people started acting shady. Darqueze Dennard? Yea right, State wanted Christian Bryant (tOSU).

State whiffed on Jibreel Black (UM) and Bruce Gaston (Purdue) AND Carl Davis (Iowa) and had to bring in a JUCO DT (White). You think Le'Veon Bell was a "Plan A" recruit for MSU? TE Alex Welch went to ND. Dior Mathis chose Oregon.

My point is simply this: MSU has regularly missed on their Plan A guys, and those guys often go to other schools. It's been that way even when UM was under Rich Rod. That those guys are now going to UM really doesn't make a difference to MSU, because MSU wasn't getting those kids prior to Hoke coming in.

I think that his point is that this hasn't been a major break from history. When, exactly, has MSU football outrecruited UM head to head consistently? It didn't happen under RichRod or Lllllllllloyd, for sure.

See my extended response above. It would be, because it would be a departure from the norm. As it stands now, the Plan A guys don't choose MSU often. That more of them are going to UM is relatively immaterial; they were likely to end up somewhere other than MSU anyways. It's great for UM, but it's not like this is suddenly draining MSU of its talent. I'd be glad to break down the '11 class for you as well.

Take the OH guys this year, like Charlton. If UM doesn't get him, tOSU would scoop him up before MSU is even on the radar. Is that really a big deal that he chose UM over tOSU and MSU? Was his very next choice going to be MSU?

In the current class, the "Plan A" guys that committed are Holmes, Shelton, Powell, Hicks and Reschke. We'll see if someone like Augusta drops (unlikely), but it's on to Plan B and C, etc . . . . just like every other year. This isn't a new thing, so that's why I don't really care.

I think this has a lot to do with his hand being forced. For the most part, big ten territory is largely locked up with the exception of a few well known prospects here and there.
