  • Tigers win again. 10th straight at home. With the Sox losing, pulls the Tigers to a half game back from them.

Looking forward to hearing the practice review from MSU/UM this week.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

  • News will be limited on the Michigan front. Hoke has the place on lockdown.

Poole is out with a pec injury, still no word on how long.
Toussaint and Clark are not practicing.
    Rawls runs "mean".
Fr WR Darboh was impressive, on day one of practice fall, without pads, so take it for what it's worth.

I had thought somebody posted Toussaint was practicing again. Guess I misread or missed some sarcasm.

Rawls will probably be sufficient for what UM needs, as would Smith. They're both 3rd down types, right? IMO, with Denard being the homerun threat, a power back would be an ample compliment.

    How are the TE's progressing?

Smith is a great 3rd down/change of pace back. Over 1,000 yards rushing in his career at over 5 ypc, if I remember correctly, with around 6 TD catches also. Smith is listed at 5'6" 175 lbs.

Rawls is a bowling ball chain mover, that while casual watchers talk about his ability to break tackles, the defense all raved about his speed last year and during the spring. Rawls is listed at 5'10 218 lbs.

I haven't heard anything on the TEs yet.

Beating the Yankees is always a good thing. Tigers seem to be back on a good groove again.

  • MSU wins the race to have the dirtiest players according to other B10 players.

It doesn't really matter, but the thing I take away is that MSU fan boys who claim "Gholston was provoked" are ignorant.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Hoke's comments about Michigan "getting punched in the face" in last year's game and "getting their butts kicked" was meant to be a literal description as opposed to "sports talk." He isn't complaining, just describing the type of play.

Regardless, whether you agree with dirty play or not, you have to be ready for it. I get the sense the second year UM coaches will be more ready for it this year and prepare the team accordingly. I would shocked to see Gholston get away with another punch or head twist without Michigan literally punching back after that.

I'm going to preface this by saying that I DO NOT believe that Gholston twisting Denard's facemask was directly provoked whatsoever, and that it was terrible. This is not about that.

Hard to say whether this shows Gholston was provoked, when UM players themselves were involved in the voting. Because it is possible that two UM players voted for Gholston, it's hard to say that this proves/disproves anything at all.

And many people would be shocked to see Gholston try another punch or head twist. He re-focused his entire approach to the game after the UM incident last year, and national articles have been written that speak to this.

Note also that Molk received a vote. It is, therefore, within the realm of possibility that Molk provoked the incident. While I don't believe this to be the case at all, it is a possibility.

Nothing scientific about it, but it is probably a somewhat good indication of reality. I know Molk had a reputation of being nasty. Not surprised by him on there.

Did you gloss over this part?

"The overall results are a little disappointing because nearly half the group didn't offer a specific answer. While some players were hesitant, despite the anonymity of the poll, some honestly couldn't name a player or players they found to be overtly dirty."

A poll like this would be laughed out of court.

Had to lol at "Anyone on Michigan State's defense -- 1 vote "

And let's be honest.. 4 total votes for MSU.. the 2 Gholston and Anyone on MSU's D I'm assuming are UMers and Worthy is someone from Iowa

I think we can all agree this seems to "INDICATE" that MSU's defense plays dirty (and Gholston). There is nothing inherently wrong with that and there is nothing definitive about the poll.

But, it is unlikely that "two UM offensive players" voted four times for MSU's defensive players. I know that a Michigan writer helped with the poll, but the other poll about least liked coach did not include Dantonio and the blogger said most people just picked a rival's head coach. Which brings me to my second point as to why the 2 UM player thing is laughable. Hoke has made Ohio a priority. The players speak about the Ohio rivalry in different terms than the UM one. The OSU game had a lot of chippiness last year (and every year). If it was two UM players and if those guys didn't want to just answer the anonymous question straight-up, they would likely have targeted an Ohio player.

This poll is not fact, but it is more likely a sblurry picture of reality than it is to being WAY OFF or anything.

Some MSU fans are probably proud to win that way. OSU won big under Tressel and his famously players did a lot of ankle twists in piles, etc. Dantonio may have picked it up there. It is a smart idea by Dantonio. That is one way you level the playingt field with a more talented player.

Poll said 2-3 players from each team were interviewed.. considering a UMer helped write it- I'd say there were 3 UM players interviewed..

the vote for Worthy was definitely from Iowa- they still complain about how he faked injuries when Iowa was driving down 17 with like 4 minutes left lol

so 3 UM votes.. 3 votes for MSU sans Worthy

    Coincidence???

A poll like this would be laughed out of court.

That just means that it is likely the players took the question seriously enough not to "make up" answers. The people who were named must have been "more dirty." Also, the players were also likely hesitant to say another guy was dirty because it sounds like sour grapes. You wouldn't want to name a rival in that situation.

This makes it seem even less likely some player would just "make up" a name from a rival team.

It's not science, but it does provide some insight. It is up to you to weigh it. I am fine thinking Molk was a dirty player. Not surprising. But then again, I never whined about him getting suspended or claimed he was provoked in the past, so I have less that I admit (I was wrong) by calling him dirty.
