What's UM's RB situation behind Toussaint? I find that portion of UM's offense quite interesting, in that it's not an area that I can remember RR's offenses excelling in, but Borges seemed to havesome success with last year.
For MSU, I am interested to see how the position ends up. Bell is the obvious starter at this point, and it would seem Caper is the likliest 2nd option, but Hill has been getting praise as a playmaker his entire career and there are a couple other guys being tried out at RB.

It would be a tough pill to swallow, but after our #1, I think UM has the stronger group. (feel free to jump in Rocky if I'm conceding too much or too little).

    Toussaint (RS JR)
    Rawls (SO)
    V. Smith (SR) (small but fast/tough)
    Hopkins (JR) (FBish)
Hayes (RS FR) (possible future slot receiver, but can play RB if needed)
Drake (FR) (not highly rated but has potential)
    Norfleet (FR)
    Houma (FR) (probable future FB)
    Shallman (2013 commit)
    L. Smith (2013 commit)

I'd think he'd be a good/great option at KR, an area where you guys uncharactistically struggled this year.

I agree. I think him and Norfleet will both get an opportunity at KR.

Jeaze, Norfleet... talk about a weird recruitment...

He was a great snag for you guys, just never saw it coming at all. Should be a great KR/PR threat by his soph year at the latest...

  • How about MSU? What will the strongest position group be? I would assume LB but correct me if I'm wrong.

And he's our starting FB so I'm not sure why he's classified as "FBish". Hes definitely a FB.

I think we'll see the same running game as last year. Denard and Fitz getting a lot of yards and carries, Smith being a very reliable 3rd down back and a great receiving option out of the backfield, Hopkins as FB, and Rawls getting random carries.

We're really lucky that we return so much of our running game (assuming our OL can handle it)

It'll be interesting to see how our interior run game will be without Molk. Wouldn't be surprised to see a lot more stretch plays.

Because he's on the small side for a fullback, especially in Hoke's Manball offense. He is a big RB or a small FB, hence the term FBish. Take your pick, but stop being a dick. Wow, that even rhymes!

I won't come close to coming as in depth as Rocky or quite a few other posters. My uninformed opinion though, DE, I think (if I have the position correct). Gholston, Rush, and Hoover, plus I know there are others, I just don't know their names. I just think the line is going to dominate, but a lot of that may have to do with how ARW comes along, and I'm not sure who our other DT's are (if I have the position correct).

RB may also surprise this year. Bell has been a beast and Caper did well his Freshmen year.

Hoover's moved to DT (MD said he's up to 297).

Either LB or the Secondary. LB returns everyone in the 2-deep and the secondary does the same except for Trenton Robinson.

Hey Rocky, how many kids are the Spartans planning on taking for 2013 and how many of each position?

I used to hang out with Hoover in high school - me and his sister are really close. It's cool to see him doing well

Hey Rocky, how many kids are the Spartans planning on taking for 2013 and how many of each position?

It looks like 15 right now.

    QB -1

RB - 2 (2 committed: Holmes and Shelton)

    WR - 1

    TE - 1

    OT - 2

    OG - 1 (1 committed, Caleb Benenoch)

    DT - 1

    DE - 2

    LB - 2 (1 committed, Jon Reschke)

    DB - 2 (1 committed, Jalyn Powell)

Pretty small class; next year thing should even out as most of the 2009 class graduates along with the 2010 kids who played as true FR (Bullough, Lewis, Dennard, Bell, Gholston, though Gholston is probably gone after this year).

There could be unexpected attrition; if that's the case, MSU will add a 2nd OG and a 2nd TE before adding any more D players.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

    SpartanRocky

  • xxmgobluexx said...

Yep, typo lol. They're moving him inside, kind of like what you guys did with RVB this past year. This enables MSU to have a rotation of 4 non-FR DTs (White, Hoover, Reynolds, Kittredge), though I suspect at least 1 RS FR will push into that group.

Hoover should also be the NT in MSU's 3-3-5 on 3rd and long.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.
