At least that's a pretty minor injury. Hopefully he can use the summer to fully recover. Who's getting reps with first team now? Cook?

    Cook by default.

That sucks though. The "best" spin is that with Fowler/Lippett out, it's not like he could build chemistry with his top WR's anyways lol. That, in of itself, sucks too though.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Yeah, it is pretty minor. Maxwell is supposed to miss 1 week. He is currently listed as questionable for the spring game.

Cook is the 1st team QB now, with Badovinac the 2nd, I believe.

Apparently, if Maxwell is not ready to play in the spring game, Cook will play QB for both teams.

Yeah, I'm pretty much going to view the spring as the following:

The defense got better. Hopefully the OL gelled. The passing game is still a massive question mark.

Okay, I'll stop. Sorry I snapped. FTR, those comments I made only apply to Woodson.

To the rest of the UM posters on here (except maybe Peter, I'm undecided about him today), I can tell you how I truly feel; that Denard is one of the single most electrifying players I've ever watched, and is a large part of why I was drawn to watching UM play this past year. Also, were I building a spread offense, I would feel lucky to have Denard as the QB.

Woodson, you are phenomenally irritating. I guess I have to hand it to you; you have abilities that are unmatched.

Nice of you to try to give me credit, but you need to accept responsibility for your own actions. Don't try to brush them off by oddly trying to blame them on me.

  • Last season Worthy's disruptive play in the middle opened up things for Gholston on the edge (and Rush, our freshman All-America DE). This season Gholston's presence on the edge should open things up for White in the middle. Plus, White is a big body, who can engage more than one blocker at a time. The DL should be fine.

MSU returns arguably the best LB core in the conference, and one of the top secondaries in B1G Ten too. This opens up the playbook for blitzes with increased frequency and efficiency, without worrying about a drop-off in coverage downfield.

MSU relied on a lot of young guys on defense last year. I wouldn't be surprised if as a whole the group improved

That would be a great idea, if necessary. The more reps for him the better.

For anyone who cares, despite playing in a RR led zone-read based spread offense, Denard put up passing numbers as a first year starter and a sophomore that were comparable to Cousins' numbers as a third year starter and senior:

    Cousins (2011) 14 Gms 63.7% Comp 3,316 Yds 7.9 Yds/Att 25 TDs 10 Int
    Denard (2010) 13 Gms 62.5% Comp 2,570 Yds 8.8 Yds/Att 18 TDs 11 Int

Of course, the above does not count Denard's 1,702 rushing yards (over 130 per game) and 14 rushing TDs. If Denard is not a good QB, I'm curious - what does that make Kirk Cousins?

Really? You wouldn't wanna give a third stringer some snaps?

I'm really not worried about that aspect of it, honestly.

If Badovinac is playing QB, familiarity with the offense won't be the issue...

I'm just too slow to understand how a QB who has never been voted as one of the top two QB's in the conference by the coaches, could have been one of the best QB's in the nation over the past two years.

Sorry respectful UM fans, I couldn't take it.

  • Does everyone want to know one of my favorite parts of Cousins' speech?
    Fine, fine, I'll tell you.

    I'm paraphrasing:
I was visiting an elementary school when a boy asked me if I wish I could be as good as Denard Robinson.
I replied, 'yes', but that I've heard that Denard's only wish is that he was as fast as me.

    Gotta love Captain Kirk.

I mean, it's just a rough guesstimate, but he probably ran for over 120 yards, AT LEAST.

Annnnnnd . . . Maxwell sprained his knee in practice, out 1 week.

Gives Cook a shot to show what he can do playing with the 1s.

We talk about Michigan Oline depth all the time. I firmly believe that Michigan will be alright if Denard goes down. They are still a bowl team.

If MSU loses Maxwell, not so much.

6-6 would be the ceiling w/out Maxwell I think.

Fortunately it's just a sprain, not an tear. Just needs to stay off of it till it's 100%.

  • Captain Kirk will likely be drafted in the first 3 rounds of the NFL Draft as a Quarterback. Dennard will be drafted in the first 3 rounds as an RB/WR.

There's no question that Robinson is more athletic than Cousins, and they will both play in the NFL. But only one will play in the league as a QB, and that's why Captain Kirk is the better quarterback.

I mean it strictly in terms of suitability to the position. As to who is the better player, or who has a more successful career, that's anyone's guess.
