  • The Lions should take Cousins in the mid rounds, and every other local product remaining in the late rounds/unsigned free agents.

MSU isn't a very good football program.. takes year of consistent winning to get to that level. - copemoney 1/22/13

    What are your draft predictions?

Who is selected in the first two rounds from our two schools?

I say it will be Worthy (MSU), Martin (UM) and Molk (UM) in the first two rounds - probably in that order.

Obviously, Cousins might make it by the end of round 2, but I think that NFL teams either go all out for a top QB early or wait until later rounds.

I think Cousins, Hemingway and Martin are probably close to round 2 and will hear their names early over the weekend.

Hemingway will not be close to a 2nd round pick. 5th, or 6th round for him.

Worthy early 2nd I would imagine, potentially late first.

Martin mid to late 2nd. Molk 3rd or 4th round.

Not sure about Cousins or Keshawn.

A month ago I would have agreed about Hemingway, but I have read he is shooting up the projection charts.

Molk was by far my biggest stretch for the 2nd round. It'll be by a hair, if at all. I wouldn't be surprised to see him fall to the end of the 3rd or so.

I really don't know about KMartin or Cunnhingham. Looks like KMartin is projected higher by some people, but having watched them play a little bit, that doesn't seem right.

Agree about this. I keep seeing rankings where Martin is ranked much higher than B.J. and I really don't get it.

Great offer list. If USC pushes hard for a kid, they are tough to beat. You have to think Arkansas is out of it soon. Down to MSU vs MSU for the kid?

    Mind. Is. Blown.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

  • As far as the draft, I really hope the Lions can pull off getting Mark Barron. That would be huge. In the 3rd or 4th round, it'd be sweet if they pull Molk as well for a backup.

I think Worthy is a late 1st/early 2nd round guy and Martin is a 2/3 guy. Hemingway and Koger will probably be 6th or 7th round and RVB probably won't be drafted IMO.

I remember seeing the 2011 Gator Bowl matchup for Michigan and my first thought being, "might actually have a chance to beat an MSU team, RichRod".
As bad as that loss was, I am glad where Michigan stands today.

In terms of being a WR, BJ is better. The difference is that Martin is an AP-type, who can be your team's PR/KR/#3 WR/end around/trick-play guy, etc. That kind of versatility, especially given a 53 man roster restriction, makes him valuable.

Plus he's faster than BJ, and we all know how the draft loves the 40 time.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

  • Maybe it is the homer in me, but I feel Hemingway is a better NFL talent than Cunningham.

Fair enough, Martin always gave us fits, I just don't see him being an impact WR in the NFL. While Cunningham IMO can be a solid possession guy.

    Molk has a 4th - 5th round grade.

    I'd say

Round 1: Worthy, though I could see him in the early 2nd round

Round 2: Cousins, Martin, in some order

    Round 3: no one

    Round 4: Molk, Keshawn Martin

Round 5: Trenton Robinson, J. Hemingway

    Round 6: BJ Cunningham

Round 7: Who knows. Possibilities are Koger, Linthicum, Huyge, etc.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Yea, K-mart isn't an every-down WR, but he can be used the way the Lions use Burelson; end arounds/trick plays, line up in the slot/speed WR. Special teams help is always appreciated as well, and return-men have value (see Dexter McCluster, in terms of draft position, not in terms of actual production).

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Ahhh, forgot about that, you're right. I doubt Linthicum gets drafted, but TE is a hot position right now.

He still has a 6th-7th round grade. I wouldn't be surprised if a team sees the promise there

I highly doubt it. An achilles tear is essentially a death sentence for guys peak athleticism. For a guy who was a borderline draft pick to begin with he will be awfully lucky to get drafted with another 7 months recovery at best.

Yea, that has UFA written all over it. Poor guy; definitely had physical talent . . . wasn't he part of Carr's last class? Gotta think he would have had a real NFL shot had a pro-style O come in instead of RichRod.

  • If Rock somehow tumbles and we can get him at a value, he could be great for the Lions. Lots of tread on the tire.

  • Rock would be great behind a good line but a pretty terrible behind a below average line. Lions shouldn't waste a pick on him with the shitty line they have.

The difference between Edwin Baker and Javon Ringer is vision. Ringer had/has it, Baker does not. If there's a hole, Baker can take it to the house as easily as Ringer, but he doesn't have the anticipation that Javon does.

I think the earliest Baker goes is the 6th, but I bet he ends up as a UFA.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

I would have agreed with you 100% yesterday, and was taken by surprise when I saw McShay's projection. But if he projects him as highly as the 4th, I start to wonder if I missed the mark. If, maybe, the projections that Baker was given were a little better than most fans would have believed.

Dude hasn't batted over .250 in like 6 years? He needed to go. All I have to point to is that Home Run Derby a few years back... man that was hard to watch.
