And let me be clear. We all like to banter back and forth in this thread, it is what it is for. There is nothing myself nor anyone can say that can erase the success that Va Tech football has had over the last twenty years. No one can deny the support your fans have for their team. You have had a great run. Rivalries are the fuel of college sports. Look at Duke and Carolina Basketball, Ohio State, Michigan football etc.. The list goes on. UVA nor Tech will ever be the best they can be as programs without each other. UVA could win 10 games a year and yet be defeated each of those years byTech and the fans would still be unhappy and vice versa. You have beaten UVA nine years in a row but what has that gotten you. Bragging rights for sure but no national recognition. The best thing that can happen for us all is that we both be at the top of our games. Then see who beats the slobbersnot out of the other. Then those bragging rights will mean much more, the nation will watch, and both programs will be elevated. The success of one adds to the success of the other. As it stands UVA has brought very little to this rivalry for the last decade. LSU, Alabama and OSU, Michigan are rivalries with national implications. Our rivalry should produce more than just bragging rights. Until there are TWO teams that put a winner on the field we will both be robbed of what could be. Tech has done their part, now it is time for UVA to do theirs. Both programs will be better for it.

I'll give you one thing we could use UVA to be better and until then need to stop worrying about beating UVA for recruits and be worried about beating the collective OOS schools for VA's top talent:

This class in VA:
Top 10
VT: 3
UVA: 1
OOS: 6

Top 25:
VT: 10
UVA: 4
OOS: 11

We crushed UVA in state but the OOS schools beat us. IMO if the UVA VT rivalry was better we likely draw more attention of some of these instate kids....the SEC type schools are always going to out bid us for kids/parents/handlers that are open to that but IMO that is a small number of kids, and IMO most of the time those aren't the kids you want anyway.

After the top 25 there are some good players but if either of us want to be elite we need to dip down that low only here and there and need to be getting better talent elsewhere. Sure VT does a great job with underrated kids and we have a few in every class that are actually 4* level players in College. But our best players are the highest rated, Logan, Tyrod, Marcus, Mike, RW, DW, Macho, Vince, Adibi, DHall, Royal, Flowers, Hosley. We need more top players, I don't care who we beat for them.

But in the mean time we can at least say we are better than UVA on the field and recruiting, because you are our Rival and we don't really have anyone else we can point too.

And sorry for posting this, this question has killed a lot of threads over the years....and before the answer comes in, no Hokie has said we are elite.

according to the industry composite and 247 these are a bit skewed, yall won this year but it wasn't as much of a blowout as you say. The real results will show up on the field. As I've said its not that we are blowing you out in recruiting, its that we are challenging you and taking some players you otherwise would've gotten, that added to our solid recruiting in Maryland and further north is raising the level of competition. No need to twist the facts due to bias either way. Additionally not sure why everyone is getting so hot and bothered over Blanding. We have 2 very connected people saying different things so I'd take a wait and see approach because either could end up happening, but no one on here knows what the hell they are talking about which makes me wonder why they are the loudest voices typically.

In my opinion the team that poses the biggest threat to UVA and Tech (in Va) is UNC. They and their new coach (Fedora) are making it no secret that they plan to target the state of Va for football recruits. They have been doing this for decades in basketball and have all intentions of bringing their brand to the tidewater for football recruits.

I looked at OX's composite rankings, that one has more than just the 247 comp, other ones might be a little different, he posted his just the other day and I was looking at it. I didn't look at others, we have #26 in his too.

I know you all hate it but how many of your recruits have VT offers and vice versa? There are always one here or there that one of us doesn't offer for what ever reason but that is another good compairison. and then there is Red Shirting, VT did a great job last year of RS most of it's top talent, UVA did not, IMO that is the biggest difference maker after pure talent in college football.

You all might be doing better at recruiting now than under Al at the end, but VT is too. The last 2 years are VT's best back to back recruiting years ever...and oh yea, we have much better coaching and know what we want for our schemes, at least on D...we'll have a new O soon enough...or shall I say an O.

You all think that you have the talent in 14 because those will be London's players, but those players will be true Srs and true Jrs, Facing kids at VT that had an extra year of weights. Our kids didn't play because they "had" too,m they played because they were good enough. Q Moore would be a really nice player as a RS Sr and a hell of a leader

Guys like DC hokie and Chad give you guys a lot of shit here. That is what we do in this thread. Both are damn solid people.
