The one thing about London that concerns me though is not owning up for the mistake he made in Blacksburg by not using his timeouts and forcing the field goal earlier. I was pretty sure he was going to make the FG regardless but at least would have loved to have 1:05 to try and either tie it back up. Him saying the talent gap was closing at the end of a game he could have won had he coached it better bothered me quite a bit. I would have much rather him take the blame himself and that it be a lesson learned. Who knows if those thoughts have changed since the end of that game to now. i sure hope so.

I have to agree with you on London's response. If coaching football doesn't work out, there's always politics.

    Excerpt from David Teel article:

Question: “Sorry to revisit this, but with 50 seconds to go, (Virginia defensive tackle Chris) Brathwaite goes off the field with an injury. If you had used two timeouts there, you could have conceivably gotten the ball back with 40-some seconds to go. Instead, they kick a field goal on the last play of the game. The clock management there, it just doesn’t compute to me.”

Answer : “I’d have to go back and look at that again. I’m trying to remember the sequence of the events and the information that I’m getting from upstairs and all that. When I do, and if I do, then I’ll definitely talk to you about how that played out.”

He then got back to Teel and stated his train of thought. That based on the prior missed FG and the fact that we hadn't moved the ball at all and we'd be attempting a FG into the wind, that our odds were better that a play could be made on defense (see Duke/Cincy) or Journell would just miss. Now, I understand that logic. I just don't really agree with it. I think you need to at least give your offense a shot but it is what it is.

Put me in the shocked camp that Obrien is a done deal. The thread on Hokie Scoop is kind of funny. Lot's of people ignoring the fact that the UVa staff just got A LOT better while also ignoring the fact that Obie and London have a great relationship. We also just put a stop gap in place should Lazor decide to bolt to the NFL. Although I love Shawn Moore and don't understand why he was dismissed, it's hard to ignore the fact that we hired a guy with 35 years more coaching experience than he had.

Fodder is fine. That's what makes these things fun.

I'm really liking the potential make up of this staff. A very nice balance of coaches and recruiters.

I agree, but 2 of the hats are on the wrong heads.

The fact he had to get back to Teel is the funny part. I mean, the sequence just happened and he has to "remember the sequence of events"? Not sure what was up with that response but if he had simply answered the man's question right then and there, at the worst people would've simply said was what you felt.

As far as Obie and London having a great relationship, Reid and London had one as well. But I would think any time you bring in a former HC as an assistant, there's always the possibility of tension. Add in the fact Lazor's probably thinking the same thing you're thinking with regards to the offense, and, the flip flopping of QB's (maybe Sims and Lambert next year), I'm not so sure everyone's gonna be happy. It'll definitely be interesting next year.

Actually there is a Hoo on our board that hates the hire, I absolutely love the hire, assures how big of an idiot London is. As for benefits for the Hoos, you guys will actually have a Head Coach now, so you should see an improvement along the game management side.. Overall I don't see you guys improving much.

I hope the Hoo fan you are referring to isn't the same one that always bashes UVA for everything and has only ever posted in the scoop. I could come over to the Grounds as a VT fan. Is is a Hokie fan all the way doesn't matter what his screen name is. I for one am excited about the hire even though I'm still kinda shocked how it all went down. Talk about putting your money where your mouth is. Well done to the AD's office for almost doubling the Asst Coaches salaries compared to last year.

The poster posts over here quite frequently but anyway you guys scored a lot of experience with both hires, it'll be interesting to see how well the players bond with the new hires.

As far a Dashawn Hand is concerned, so what if he's more interested in VT than UVA. If he doesn't commit to play at VT it doesn't make a shit if your 2nd or 10th. It will take a small miracle like you guys playing for a National Championship to make him really consider playing in the ACC. You don't have to keep calling him his Uncle. I've talked to him again, his uncles name is Donald Hand he doesn't care who knows. Your more than welcome to check with your sources to make sure. Yep it is the same Donald Hand that played PG at UVA in the 1990's.

    1. Pep isnt coming to VT.
    2. I know who his Uncle is, and I never said he was coming to VT, although were very very much in it. My point is, you crowed about UVA being in his top 3, and theyre not. You stated, your sources were solid and all this other BS. This has nothing to do with VTs shot at him, just your sources sucking.
    3. Yes I am a prick.

Love his personality or hate it, he's won a lot more than he's lost and runs a clean program. There are head coaching jobs out there for guys like that.

He only wins 58% of his games, and has never had a 10 win season. While I think he is an upgrade over London, and definitely an upgrade over the staff of recruiters you had last year, there is a reason he was fired.

Only 58, thats not exactly great. I guess to a team that goes 4-8 all the time it is, just not to teams that actually go over .500 all the time.

3 coaches out, 1 coach reassigned. Interviewing 3-4 OC candidates, should have answers by middle to late next week.

Pep is not coming to VT.

Your hyperbole aside, this is great hire when you look at the years of experience these guys bring to the table. TOB over 37 years, Tenuta almost 30. I'll take it!

I agree, this is an upgrade, I even stated that earlier. I just dont think TOB is some legend coach like some of your fans do. He just got fired from freaking NCST. Tenuta however, is complete garbage, and I couldnt be happier to see yall pony up 500k per for that bum.

I like the hire..maybe there are bigger names out, but brings some aggressiveness to our D..I think Coach Reid is awesome though, but sometimes you have to make changes

good luck with your new hires (of course I want you to hire a bunch of incompetents, but that's besides the point) biggrin

Oh have no fear, we will hire at least 1 incompetent, as we always do.

There is no doubt Tenuta will blitz like no other.
