I know I give 5284 a bunch of shit because he deserves it. But I try to shoot it straight on both sides in this thread and this is so off the wall unbelievable that it almost seems that someone is playing a big time prank on you guys. This makes no sense whatsoever if Chuck Long is hired.

Thats why I said I was concerned with competing with them, as in we needed a hire to get us there.

Well I guess hiring Long will make Shane O Mac more attractive for the HC job at VT in a few years. The said part about it is that he sat in with his dad on these interviews. Good luck explaining that to the 804 to keep dominating it.

$100 this is a trial balloon. Beamer and Weaver interview Long. Nice guy. Gives a good interview. Tells a touching story about wanting to be closer to his son when asked why he decided to step away from the college game. Stellar resume from a college player perspective and had some decent years as a coordinator too back in the day.

However, they have reservations. So they get someone to float his name to gauge the reaction. Reaction comes back overwhelmingly negative. Beamer and Weaver press on.

If this is the case, I'd still be worried just from the simple fact that they thought he warranted the floater. You run the risk of negative PR backlash even with a simple trial balloon. Only way to overcome it is with a home run hire, which in this case, was your Plan A (Pep). You guys better have another home run hire tucked away.

It means VT sucks something fierce I think, or something along those lines

He could very well pick UVA, but FSU will not go away, and Blanding is good enough to have a spot anywhere in the country until the last minute. Even if he picks UVA, your season could come into play, if it is bad.

IMO Blanding is/was better that Brown, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Blanding move up in the rankings and even to see Holmes up to high 5* before it's said and done. Blandings ball skills were really really impressive on both O and D, maybe more so on O.

Yeah but Quin doesn't want to play O. He know's his future in the NFL is at Safety and I can't blame the kid. I still don't have any doubt that he will be a HOO and most everybody else says the same. He likes FSU no doubt but he want's to play with his friends more. Unless there is some falling out along the way with that core group of kids I can see all of them head to UVA.

I can't get a straight answer was told a couple of weeks ago that he could committ next weekend now I'm hearing he may do it at our Junior Day and see if he can help get the ball rolling with some others to committ that day. That's the honest answer and if true I would prefer he wait until our Junior Day.
