  • In my opinion.....Tyren Jones, Ryan Green, and Alvin Kamara are the 3 best RBs in this class. All 3 are great "runners" out of the backfield and also so elite at catching passes that all are capable of being BCS Level starters in the slot. I favor Jones because he comes in the Mark Ingram, Trent Richardson, Doug Martin mold of being 5'9" with so much muscle bulk/thickness that he can also handle 20-25 carries a game between the tackles. I haven't seen another RB this class that can play slot WR at a high level and also "currently" has that muscular BMI to handle SEC carries between the tackles.

Also very impressed with the skillset displayed by Ezekiel Elliott as he fits into the Ryan Green/Alvin Kamara mold.

Jabrill Peppers...More I watch, the more I'm convinced he is the best player in the 2014 class. Barring injury, he will do special things.

  • When talking about the best RB's in this class, I think one has to what and see considering tow of the most talented are going to take the field as seniors coming off of injuries - Tenpenny and Keith Ford. If all the top guys have healthy senior seasons, should make for great discussion throughout the year and through the all-star games.

  • Tenpenny could end up pushing Taylor for No. 1 IMO. 212 pounds, smooth and is legit 4.4 or better.

  • Cooper Bateman did not have his best showing but his receivers could have helped him out more than they did. There were several dropped passes and passes through the hands out there on the 7on that was on ESPNU. Hopefully, he'll have a much better day out there today.

  • I agree on the wait and see approach regarding the top RBs. Kelvin Taylor is a nice RB but I have hard time believing he's #1 out of the group mentioned above.

Agree with this, and Keith Ford. Ford is coming off of a Jones Fracture, which is not the one you want as a foot injury.

The reason I favor Jones over these 2 is:
-He's at a comparable weight, currently at 205. Given his height of 5'9", he actually has a higher BMI
-He plays against better competition as Georgia's Large class had 12-14 different teams ranked in a National Top 100 Poll and he played 3 games against 5 star defensive lineman (Robert Nkemdiche & 2 against Carl Lawson). Taylor plays in 1 of Florida's smaller classes and Arkansas doesn't have a great deal of high school football talent with only 3 players that are 4 Stars in the entire state. Grayson's defense has about that many.
-He's very productive (2,400 yards rushing, 33 Rushing TDs, 3,000+ All-Purpose Yards, 38 Total TDs during the 2011 season alone)
-His presence in the backfield yields wins (Lassiter was 12-0 when he started as a freshmen before losing in the Quarterfinals of playoffs in 2009. Walton was 6-4 in 2009 and 7-4 in 2010. Jones transferred to Walton in 2011 and they go 14-0 before losing to the best defense in the nation in 15-0 and top 5 Nationally ranked Grayson led by Robert Nkemdiche in the State Championship Game).
-Jones is a 4.4x guy that runs 11.04 in the 100m and led his team to 2nd at Georgia's largest State Track Meet in the 4x100m Relay. For comparison, Tenpenny ran 11.50 in the 100m which is his PR and Taylor has run 12.2x-12.3x in the 100m this year
-Jones is also a better pass-catcher than Tenpenny and Taylor

Everyone's opinion will differ when assssing RBs. But Jones seems to be a better prospect in all areas except perhaps from a "on the hoof", aesthetic perspective. But the "on-the-hoof" evaluation is why I think someone like James Wilder Jr. was overrated as a RB prospect as on-field production didn't match his aesthetic appearance.

On-field production against quality competition is a better predictor of college success than SPARQ Scores. See Auburn's Mario Fannin who ran 4.37 at 5'10", 227 pounds and went undrafted for reference compared to Ray Rice.

  • How has Brazil looked overall in drills? Are his hips and quickness good enough to stick at CB or would offense be a better fit based on what you guys have seen? His shuttle on Friday was a little concerning.

Bateman is good, but he isn't great. Doesn't help him that he is competing with three top QBs.

  • I thought I heard Ezekial Elliot was making great catches all day. Is he not in the top five because most of his plays were as a WR? Also how did he look when running the ball? For comparison sake who in the class would you compare him to? (Taquon Mizzell??)

You cite the exception- not the rule- with Rice/Fannin.

The BMI argument is a non factor.

Production is what has Jones rated as high as he is. Agree it is tough competition.

I think you are just more familiar with Jones, so you favor him. That's the truth here. Nothing wrong with that and hey, you could be right.

He was good, too, just was not quite as good as the others we listed. To me, he's more like Camara.

i haven't seen film on green, but i agree w you that jones is a little undervalued. he's going to be a very fine back-- a kid i'm sorry is leaving the state. hopefully we can keep kamara. hope to see y'all in december. go dawgs.
