Did you read the story? Shane was mentioned as someone who played up to the hype.

    Yeah.

Texas A&M commit, Noel Ellis, should get a "shout out" for being all over the field for the Field Generals' Defense throughout the weekend (including a stellar 2 Int game off Alabama QB commit Cooper Bateman in the 1st semifinal matchup vs. Superbad. He also had a pick 6.

Yep. He played really well all weekend. Was impressed.

Shurburtt hyping up Larentz Bryant. Big surprise there...

    mad Nikedmiddiddd didn't approve Bryant's scholly ^^^^

2 sentences on Bryant, yeah the hype machine is in full affect.

  • Did Bateman live up to hype? Once he adjusted his timing to the speed of the game, as played by the collective talent in Oregon, he eventually led his team to a championship game victory over that of the dearly beloved Max Browne.

  • Didn't Fuller have a big pick in the final game?

Much better day two. Saturday, the felt comfortable on the first read, but not as comfortable scanning and working the ball down the field. Sunday, I thought he was much improved in that aspect. I agree it was speed of the players, getting adjusted - it's definitely not that he can't do it well. I like his delivery - compact and get it out quick. He also has good feet, and is probably a little underrated as an overall athlete. Quarterbacks are a crapshoot for the most part IMO, but he's a solid prospect and national 100 guy.

So I know you guys don't like to comment on what other sites say, so just a quick question. On twitter, the "Godfather of Recruiting" claims that Taco didn't win a rep in 1on1s and was the most disappointing player out there.

I saw videos of 1on1s, saw a scoresheet that listed Taco as tying for the most wins of any DL, and heard you guys say he had a great first day, so this was a shock to me. Do you guys feel like Taco had a pretty good weekend, and did he do anything to help/hurt his rating?

I saw him win three reps on Saturday. Every bit of reporting from this event from everybody should always be qualified with "when I was watching"- that goes for me, too.

Good to hear he got the first step on the dummy...

It was just a standard one-on-one like you would see at any other camp.

    What a ridiculous comment.

First of all I am not hyping anybody. I report what I see. Larenz Bryant is a good prospect. That's why Clemson, Georgia, Florida and everybody else wanted him.

Second, I am not sure why a funny moment (which is what the question was about) is hyping anyone as a player.

  • From everything I hear Ryan Green an Ira Denson should be ~25th and 75th overall in the next rankings. Just round guesses but Green is a borderline 5 star and Denson should be the #1-2 OG and a top 100 FOR SURE

Didn't Fuller have a big pick in the final game?

Yes it was the only play he made all weekend. He looked tired and wasn't as good as we've seen him previously.

He played very well on the final day. Still would have him behind Browne, Morris and Hackenberg at quarterback in terms of prospects nationally.

Steve Elmer stone walled him on all four reps he went against him.

From the videos I saw, Elmer had a good weekend. However, I haven't seen any site mention him much at all.

Also, I think Taco had plays where is athleticism won him some drills. He however got just beat down on a couple as well. He showed what everyone has been saying about him. He is a project that will be good if he works out. Otherwise you wasted a scholly.

He has a lot of upside but at current level he isnt' even a contributer on your team.

  • I would think that Fuller's game sealing INT with under 2 minutes to go in the finals of the 7 on 7 is a difference making play, wouldn't you? It's hard to shine when the ball is never thrown to the guys Fuller was covering...I think he had to defend about 3 balls all weekend because he had his WR's so well covered. To me...that is the sign of a DB doing his job rather than disappointing...

Not even close to being true. Fuller had an OK weekend, but he definitely wasn't shutting down his side of the field and making teams throw away from him. Anybody with a first hand account will tell you that.

He's still an excellent prospect.. but the only person on earth who thought he had an outstanding weekend was Mike Farrell. shrug

  • Fuller is Farrell's and therefore, Rivals' guy. They aren't going to bash him. It's no suprise they praised him. They are falling down to ESPN's level quickly.

Let me preface this by saying I really appreciate all the great work you guys did this weekend. It reminds me why this site is head and shoulders above any other I've been on and why I'm glad to pay for the service here.

However I do disagree with Simmons' take on why Fuller underperformed. I understand that you want to see some wow plays from a guy rated that high but that just isn't what he does. I mean he certainly can but because he's such a great cover guy you don't see those plays simply because the guys he covers arent open and QB's won't test him. I think the reasons you listed why he underperformed is what makes him such a great player.

I'll also say I completely agree with your pick for overachiever. Delano Hill had measureables I don't think most were aware of and they really showed on the field as well. He had incredible range, really broke well on the ball and just flat out made plays everywhere. As a Cass Tech kid I'm almost a little disappointed Michigan didn't offer the kid even though we're pretty set at the position. Loved his game though.

Your explanation is exactly why i don't think you can expect any kind of major drop in his ranking.

However, when he doesn't look all that impressive physically, he doesn't test well and he never flashes all weekend, that is not what I expect out of the No. 2 CB in the country. Not saying he isn't a great player but I don't think there is any way that Vernon Hargreaves doesn't find a way to make a play. Jalen Ramsey was making plays all over the place. Even Chris Hawkins - who has that sort of style that discourages quarterbacks from throwing his way - managed to jump out at us.

Again, this isn't some definitive statement on his ability, just an observation that I wanted to see more out of him.

  • JC, how would you breakdown the QB pecking order between Browne, Morris, and Hack? What separates each from the others, and what do you think is behind Hackenberg's interceptions at this event?
