The State of Texas

  • with the political outcomes determined, I doubt most of the younger posters know Texas' constitution allows for secession from the union.

    Serious questions;

    1) Would Texas succeed, if it seceded?
    2) Would the US survive if Texas seceded?
    3) How long before other states tried to become part of Texas?

  • If Texas seceded and the U.S. cut off military support, how long would it be until Mexico took it over?

    Fuzz

  • Seceding would be a lot harder than the 1860s. There is a lot of stuff they would have to do now and things they would have to consider. If it was spur of the moment, they would fail hard.

I would the opposite on all three, and wouldn't blink.

Other states that if they could secede, that would be self sufficient North Dakota, Alaska, Louisiana, Oklahoma, West Va, and perhaps a few of the farm states.

california/florida could but have huge populations/resources compared to others,

If Texas seceded with a budget of no debt, insane regulations/taxes on fuel, abundance of cheap labor, distance to N. American/S,American marketplaces. I dont see a long time until Texas becomes a superpower that the US is in debt too. I'm being serious

You've never been to Texas, or met a Texan I assume. Hell a quarter of our military probably has Texas roots, Mexico would not be a concern, probably less then today

  • I like Texas, been there a few times, enjoyed it greatly. Also am friends with a number of Texans, great people. But does anyone else have as much of an inflated personal perception of themselves as Texans?

Reality, Texas would become one of the top exporters of oil/gas/produce in the world immediately

Maybe people originally from NYC... but.... on a state level no.. that's just weird.

Never been to Texas, i'm sure it's awesome... people are probably cool and all... but wtf? What's up with the constant secession talk? GTFO then.

Texas wouldn't be self-sufficient. They would begin to experience the same problems any nation would. They aren't diverse enough to grow all the food they would need, so you would have to import. I hope they are competitive in an industry for a export. They would have to set up a military, central bank, different departments, look for recognition...

If they just seceded, I highly doubt the US would be all lovey-dovey and allow for the free flow of goods and services, tariffs etc. Companies don't like uncertainty. Texas would have to be able to prove they could offer what any nation can in protection of property, infrastructure, education etc.

etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.

Why couldn't Texas militarize itself and if Friendly to US and #1 exporter of fuel(which they would be) and on border of US , you think US would let them get invaded ? Seriously, we wont let Grenada get taken over

  • In reality the U.S. probably wouldn't let them get invaded... but if Texas was enough of a dick to leave the rest of us behind, then I think Texas should have to be cut off from Dad so to speak.

  • Yellowfin. A lot of benefits and advantages you are talking about are a function of being a state and not a nation.

Yea it's pretty sad that people think that any people still think that secession would end in anything other than the US completely suppressing the revolution as violently and as quickly as possible.

    Elderpanda

  • Things would get real shady real fast for sure.... and there would be no record of what happened.

Sorry Texas, you're going down with the rest of us.

Seriously. Texas has no military of its own. Texas has people from Texas in the U.S. military, but it's highly doubtful that any significant number of U.S. soldiers (even those from Texas) would commit treason and engage in open revolt. With the full might of the U.S. military against the Texas citizenry, it wouldn't even be close - like, the type of "not even close" seen in the 2003 OU-TAMU game.

It wouldn't be treason, it's part of their constitution. It wouldnt be a revolt, it would be a vote

This guy just isn't getting it... Like any US Military branch would be like "Oh it's in the Texas constitution? We'll release you from your duties then." Come on man.
