If the Nebraska's or Alabama's or Michigan's refuse to even play Boise State, then they lose all rights to complain about their schedules.
And Boise State has tried to better their conference, but most of the teams left for other conferences. Boise State can't force themselves in a better conference, it's up to the better conferences to send an invite to Boise. It's not as simple as, "Oh our schedule sucks, lets schedule the top four teams in the country." It's a two way street, and it's the same way with conferences.
I don't know about you, but I would much rather have Michigan face Boise State, rather than some crap team like UMass or some cupcake like that. Look what happened with VT and BSU, the ratings for that game set records and got both of those schools a big truckload of cash.

As you mentioned earlier, it's not entirely their fault. But they can't have ALL 3 of the conditions I mentioned. I would venture we'd pay them 1m to come play us, but we're not going to that little blue turd the following year. That would essentially be paying them twice for a home and home. If they want a home and home, they need to schedule it straight up without asking for payment. You also mentioned that they're doing 2 non-con road games before. That being the case, they should have scheduled a couple of elites either with pay and no return game, or straight up.
In a 1 game scenario, they have recently been good enough to beat anyone on a given night. How would they fare with 4-6 such games on their schedule? I think not nearly so well. It's easy to have healthy starters throughout the year when they're all on the sideline shooting dice in the 3rd quarter.
The only way they can remedy this is to really play tough games in all non-conf games. It would essentially be an equalizer to Bama or Neb or Mich playing 4 really tough conf games and a bunch of OOC pansies. We wrecked the B1G co-champs a couple years ago 49-7, and we would have been undefeated with Boise's schedule. But we played LSU, Aub, etc and didn't get that opportunity. We have to deal with our struggles, so should they.
Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Oh, I'm with you on this. If Boise schedules 4 AQ Conf. teams (better Blue2468?), 2 home, and 2 away, I'd feel better about their claims. If their non-conf. is:
@USC Maryland S. Carolina @Michigan State
and they run the table vs. that, then I can forgive their weak conf. schedule. Getting up for 1 AQ game/year? Weak. There are probably a full 20 AQ teams that could go 11-1 against Boise's schedule from last year.

I keep seeing MSU fans say this, but Athlon's and Phil Steele both list BSU with 15/22 lost, not 18/22.
Also, for the MSU fans laughing at the BSU fan for saying 9 BSU olinemen return with starting experience, here is a quote from Athlon's,
"The backbone of the offense likely will be the experienced offensive line, which returns three starters and a total of nine players with starting experience..."

I thought 18 based on their bowl game depth chart.
From my earlier post:
------
QB Kellen Moore
WR Tyler Shoemaker
LT Nate Potter
C Corey Yriarte
RG Chuck Hayes
TE Kyle Efaw
RB Doug Martin(7 offense starters listed as such on final depth chart)
DE Tyrone Crawford
DT Billy Winn
DT Chase Baker
DE Shea McClellin
LB Byron Hout
LB Aaron Tevis
S Cedric Febis
S Travis Stanaway
NB Hunter White
CB George Iloka(10 defensive starters listed as such on final depth chart)
Also they lost their punter Brad Elkin.
Total lost starters - 18.
