The new Big 14, what would you think?

  • I did this in about 2 minutes so don't freak out but feedback would be appreciated. The football depth in the East is amazing. Miami would start off battling Louisville for 6th which would be far more a compliment to the conference than it would be a derision to those two programs.

    Big 14 Conference
    West: (Football prestige, Basketball Prestige)
    Oklahoma (A+, C+)
    Oklahoma St. (B+, B-)
    Kansas (C-, A+)
    Kansas St (B, B-)
    Iowa St. (D+, D+)
    Texas (A, B+)
    Texas Tech (B-, C)

    East:
    FSU (A-, B)
    Clemson (B, C)
    West Virginia (B+, B+)
    Louisville (C+, A-)
    Miami (A-, C)
    Baylor (B, A-)
    TCU (B+, D)

  • I seriously doubt Baylor and TCU would be in the East. Probably more likely that it's the Kansas schools. But that's just semantics, it's a really good conference and one that I hope happens.

Looking at a map those two are the furthest east. Why I picked them. Ok I see how the Kansas schools are slightly further east but add in the Longitudinal distance and they are much further trips it seems to my eye.

sure, I just can't see them not grouping all the Texas and Oklahoma schools together if this were to go down.

Ahhh, I see. I can see that. Just figured they could be set up as inter divisional rivalries.

  • For those of us who don't track all the conference realignment stuff, is there a chance all those ACC teams might join the BIG12?

If cross divsional rivalries is decided upon, I hope Texas' is FSU. That would be a big national TV game every year and could be put on Thanksgiving and replace where the UT-A&M game was on the schedule.

All this is hitting the fan at an alarming rate but as of today I'd say it's highly likely it's announced at the end of July. Marinemountie may correct me.

  • We should have a thread where we do a hypothetical for four sixteen team super conferences.

"A political call, the fall guy accord...We can't afford to be neutral on a moving train..."

  • My thoughts on that. Tcu will definitely be east. They agreed to the big east before and big 12 told them they could be split east with additional teams added.

Oklahoma and Texas have talked about going separate divisions next time around ala Michigan/Ohio State

I think you are hating on Iowa state a little with double D+

I think from what I put the Big 16 would add Maryland and GT. Not positive though.

VT and NCSt would likely go to SEC unless NCSt can't get free from politics and then it might be UCF to combat the intrusion of the Big 16.

B1G would add Notre Dame and Rutgers probably.

Pac 12 would really struggle for options.

I've followed both sports a long time and aside from Davis the RB and Fizer the PF I can't remember Iowa State doing anything in either sport. Correct me if I am wrong.

  • Bowl games and tournament appearances I would at least give a C-. Could be a new conference brother soon for you. Be nice

Stop it. Both have skyrocketed under present leadership. The basketball team is going nowhere. Isaiah Austin is a freak.

they've been good for about three years in their entire history in basketball. they ain't running anything too clean either. You put recent success as a big factor in these ratings.

    Big 14 Conference West: (Football prestige, Basketball Prestige) Oklahoma (A+, C+) Oklahoma St. (B+, B-) Kansas (C-, A+) Kansas St (B, B-) Iowa St. (D+, D+) Texas (A, B+) Texas Tech (B-, C)

    East: FSU (A-, B) Clemson (B, C) West Virginia (B+, B+) Louisville (C+, A-) Miami (A-, C) Baylor (B, A-) TCU (B+, D)

Not sure about some of the football grades, but that conference would be solid. Some of those teams are down, but I can't help but think the ACC has a huge part in why FSU and Miami have been bad for so long. Instead of the additions helping the ACC in football, they actually brought those teams down to their level.

Where does Miami fit in all this? They don't have the fanbase or stadium that really fits with the rest. With a Florida team arleady in, does it make sense to take on the last two teams? At that point, you're kinda just splitting more money than you have to. What about Louisville and GT with the Atlanta market?

As for the grades. I'd say Iowa State has been better than Kansas in football, no? Baylor maybe still a C football wise, while a B basketball wise. I mean, you gotta look historically and liklihood of what they'll do in the future. I expect Baylor to be solid in both, but not great. Let's wait to see what TCU does in a big boy league before giving them a better grade than Clemson, and same grade as OSU/WVU. Those teams have accomplished more in a better league I would think.

  • Miami needs to be added if possible. They are a national brand that people would watch if they were playing FSU, UT, OU, Clemson, Ok. St., KSU, or WVU. Hell, maybe even TCU.

People want to watch great football regardless of the size of their media market (Boise St.). And no one watches crappy football, even in large markets (Syracuse).

I don't care about footprints or size of the market. I care about getting our conference RPI/BCS rating high enough to have a team in the play-offs so that we can possibly win NC's and rake in play-off $.

B10 would love ND, but I'll believe it when I see it. And the B10 would not add Rutgers. We would go after UVA. After that, we probably would go after one of Miami/Maryland/GaTech/Syracuse. My guess is Rutgers and UConn would end up in the ACC.

Not gonna happen. We already play UF on Thanksgiving. That match up will not be moved.

Hmmm. Ok. I'll settle for Texas vs. TCU if they can stay relevant.

But then again, let's just get Notre Dame in on this party while we're at it. Y'all can play the Gators and we can whip the Irish on Thanksgiving every year. Best case scenario IMO.

Get Clemson on the line, and then call up Notre Dame and sort it out. Louisville, Miami, whoever. Just see who they want to bring too and say 'ok.'

I would love to see the Thanksgiving game alternate between TCU and Notre Dame, assuming there is one.

St. Pete, I had no idea! No way that one would be moved.
