The new Big 14, what would you think?

  • Baylor is a B for football prestige but Miami is an A-? Using the same definition of prestige for both, there is no way that can be true .. On the prestige scale that would have Miami an A-, Baylor is lucky to be a D .. and on the scale that would have Baylor at a B would have Miami not even ranked.

I would like to see that conference though .. then I would like to USC join it .. I hate the Pac 12.

I seriously doubt Baylor and TCU would be in the East. Probably more likely that it's the Kansas schools. But that's just semantics, it's a really good conference and one that I hope happens.

Agree I think this evens out to divisions a little better.

    Big 14 Conference
    West: (Football prestige, Basketball Prestige)
    Oklahoma (A+, C+)
    Oklahoma St. (B+, B-)
    Iowa St. (D+, D+)
    Texas (A, B+)
    Texas Tech (B-, C)
    Baylor (B, A-)
    TCU (B+, D)

    East:
    FSU (A-, B)
    Clemson (B, C)
    West Virginia (B+, B+)
    Louisville (C+, A-)
    Miami (A-, C)
    Kansas (C-, A+)
    Kansas St (B, B-)

Hmmm. Ok. I'll settle for Texas vs. TCU if they can stay relevant.

But then again, let's just get Notre Dame in on this party while we're at it. Y'all can play the Gators and we can whip the Irish on Thanksgiving every year. Best case scenario IMO.

Get Clemson on the line, and then call up Notre Dame and sort it out. Louisville, Miami, whoever. Just see who they want to bring too and say 'ok.'

Notre Dame plays in California on Thanksgiving weekend; USC in even years and Stanford in odd years. I don't think Notre Dame will end their rivalry with USC. Nor do I think they will cancel the series with Stanford. Any potential series with Texas will have to be at another time.

Texas already has a series scheduled with Notre Dame. I was hoping they would move the Stanford game to an earlier date. I am looking forward to the USC series too. Nothing magic about Thanksgiving though. Not a great day for a game.

  • This thread has me really excited about this conference if it happens.

-I'd be super excited to see FSU-Texas matchup as a cross division rivalry. Not only is that a really really big time matchup that would be a huge game yearly, but since my girlfriend and hopefully soon-to-be fiancé is from Oklahoma and went to OU it would be great for us to both be able to root against Texas together (No offense Texas guys. Love your program)

I think from what I put the Big 16 would add Maryland and GT. Not positive though.

VT and NCSt would likely go to SEC unless NCSt can't get free from politics and then it might be UCF to combat the intrusion of the Big 16.

B1G would add Notre Dame and Rutgers probably.

Pac 12 would really struggle for options.

I just dont see the political ties meaning a whole lot if the feeling is that the ACC is being raided and losing its other football first programs, if it means VT(or any other program) being crippled to the point of not being relevant financially (which that will do) then IMO those ties go out the window. You wanna tell me the VA lawmakers would turndown the revenue that a possible Alabama or tOSU fanbase comming in state every other year over DUKE or BC? Not hardly, especially if BOTH VA programs were in a power conferences plans.

Weak flame. You are 4 pts better than Miami... Congrats.

It's a good thing Wake Forest isn't in the East. coffee

Don't start with that. That game was a sham and you must know it. Bradham's hit resulted in an interception so that's 7 points you were given and obviously the play to start the game was a joke. I don't understand how you fluctuate from admitting your team is bad to making quips like this.

Bethune Cookman is gonna be a beast for you guys

It seems like Miami really won't go. May lack an invitation and if they get one they may hesitate too much and piss them off.

Oh look at that.... another EXCUSE, color me shocked! Never saw that coming... sarcasm

Lol. FSU had a defensive TD called back on a sham call.

Miami would have given up just like the year before and FSU would have won by 30+ had they not called that back.

You are quite the comedian these days.

    Miami >>>>>>>>> FSU

If that helps you sleep between now and July. I can imagine this is a stressful time for Cane fans.

If FSU and Clemson bolt and Miami remains........well, it won't even warrant much commentary.

We are an elite football & baseball program historically.

You are also historically ELITE at other things..........like cheating. Which I think could be the reason you would be stuck in the ACC.

That said I still hope Miami is part of whatever teams that come to the Big 12.

    HoopsCoach

  • ilovelamp51 said...

The only reason the big 12 exist is because the Southwest conference got eliminated bc of a REAL cheat scandal.

The SWC "got eliminated" because every team in the conference was located inside the borders of one state.

IF we didn't leave it would be because of academics, not bc we didn't get an invite.

We are an elite football & baseball program historically. FSU is a very good football & baseball program.

If you don't leave you'll never be heard from again.

I think we will leave for sure. I believe the ACC will end up either completely breaking up or being an 8-10 basketball conference. I personally would like to join the Big10 bc it seems more feasible location wise & is up to our academic standards.

    B10 more feasible location wise?

I’m not sure it would be more feasible location wise, but I wouldn’t mind having you guy’s in the B1G. Ideally I’m hoping for UVA, VT, Miami, and either GT, NC ST, Maryland or ND.

    Is that really a question?

If you guys joined the B1G there wouldn't be a single team within like 1,500 miles of you.

If you joined the Big12 with FSU, Clemson, and Louisville you'd be much closer to that group as well as WVU

Right? What am I missing here lol. Im honestly confused.

Louisville is in the Big East. FSU & Clemson are in the ACC. Nobody cares about one backwoods school in WV. Like I said above, it's more about region than driving distance. We wouldn't be any closer to schools in Texas than Indiana.

Fans would have to fly to attend either conferences road games. Big10 would get a better fan/tv draw for sure.

Well if you guys somehow pull that invite I'd be impressed. Seeing Miami pay for their women's softball team to fly to B1G venues would be quite the sight.

    fsufsu

  • ilovelamp51 said...

As opposed to seeing them fly to West Texas, Kansas & Iowa?

How about Massachusetts, Pennsylvania or New York? (ACC)

That's a straw man. I am saying in the new Big 12 you'd have long trips but multiple short ones. In the B1G you'd have to get on a 747 to go anywhere lol.
