The number 2 can swing votes. I know several core conservatives that voted for Obama simply because of Palin. Also Edwards was exposed as a dilettante lightweight and completely out of his depth by Cheney in their debate. That swung many undecideds.
Similar situation with Ryan v Biden IMO. If Ryan shits the bed it will hurt Romney, but if he holds his own no one will care. If Biden gets crushed it will not hurt Obama. Biden is a known commodity. Anyone that doesn't know he shoots from the hip and steps on his dick (a lot) won't be watching the debate anyway.

A Biden/Cheney debate would have been magical, IMO. One a hardcore straight-shooter that is a surprisingly good debater (I found him comical at times in the way he goes about it though) in Cheney and another that tries to come off that way but sometimes his head just can't keep up with his mouth in Biden (kind of like Bush that way.....but different).

Agree. It would be hilarious. But Cheney would destroy Biden on every conceivable level. Whatever you will regarding his politics, the dude is on a completely different intellectual plane than Biden. As he was with Edwards. He made Edwards look like a child.
