Thinking About Traveling to Mexico... Help Needed ITT

  • Thinking about taking the gf to Puerto Vallarta for our next vacation. Anyone ever been and know what its like? More importantly, anyone know how safe that area of Mexico is?

    Most of the resorts are basicly Americanized. You aren't gonna get you head cut off unless you wander away from the bars or resort in which case you're probably asking for it. We went to cancun it was a blast. I reccomend seeing the Mayan ruins of chichen itza. That will blow your mind. If you go to a bar coco bongo is the wildest. Awesome party spot and show

  • Went to cancun and Cabo last year and family goes to Cabo all the time. It's media BS about danger. Maybe if your in Mexico City or crap border towns. I prefer Cabo, cancun the PV in that order. The secrets family of all inclusive resorts are great but do the adult only as there nicer then the family ones. If you do Cabo you want to stay closer to marina as good for night life etc. some resorts are far out and a pain to go into town, etc. not sure if that helps at all

    Went tp Cabo three years ago and loved it. Agree, make sure you are within walking distance of the marina. Very relaxing vacation with plenty to do if you dont want to just lay in the sun. Just get used to saying no gracias every five minutes.

    Ha, yea on the beach in some parts the sales can get annoying. They can't go up on resort property which is good though

    While yes it's true, most of the top resorts have there own D cell plant and water is fine. Sure wouldn't drink water in public city area that is for sure. Be safe and drink beer and other alcohol beverage

    Agreed on the 'americanized' comment. I've been to Mazatlan - a little north - with a day travel to PV. No sweating any locals - was all good.

    Hoping to do Cabo San Lucas one summer - pretty pricey tho.

    I'm pretty sure every major city in the United States has areas that are more dangerous than Puerto Vallarta.

    All of this. Been to Cancun and Cabo, had a blast both times. I did all of that when I went to Cancun, was a lot of fun.

  • Never been to PV but I love Cozumel. Beautiful resorts and a little more laid back. It also has decent diving (this is where I got certified). If you go, make sure to take a day trip to Chichen Itza.

    There have already been numerous warnings about drinking the water ITT but a lot of people forget that this includes using ice or eating anything uncooked that is rinsed in water (like salads). Our group got sick eating salads at a restaurant outside of our resort......not fun. I would recommend visiting your doctor before going to Mexico. He/she can give you medicine in case you do get sick. Trust me, it is well worth the money.
