This ID to vote issue is asinine.....

  • rms02d said...

Lets think about this for a second....

If you need to be 18 to have a voters registration card... why would you need to prove your old enough to vote?Think about that one.

Stay with me here...this is where it gets difficult....

By possessing a voter registration card, you are ALREADY legal voting age.

    Well yeah to that.

But there is still nothing stopping you from going in there and claiming you are another registered voter.

I think the issue is a lack of trust from the "left" with valid reasons. Why wasn't this a law 30 years ago? I don't think "Democrats" are against having an ID, there is just smell something "fishy" with this legislation. There isn't any overwhelming data that a lack of an ID leads to vote fraud, yet a dozen "conservative" states magically come up with identical legislation requiring IDs six month before an election.

Statistically, most people without IDs are minorities, and statistically most minorities will be voting for the Black Dude in November. Statistically speaking, Republicans would benefit from the ID requirements in the upcoming election. Hence the mistrust.

When a dozen conservative states simultaneously decide that "Voter IDs" are necessary, without any evidence of fraud, its sensible to question the intent of the legislation. It doesn't mean they are against identification, they just see this as a power grab.

Im not sure if many of you have ever voted, but when you show your Voters Registration, thats it you have voted for the day. I can't hand my registration card to Miguel the Janitor and tell him to get back in there and vote for Obama. Even if I sent "Miguel the Janitor" to vote in my place, there is a good chance I would tell him to vote for my party anyway. So I don't see how "illegals" are showing up and voting.

How does one go about acquiring thousands of voter registration cards, and rounding up a bunch of illegals and sending them to the polls. Does this sound realistic?

The reason there aren't statistics is because nobody knowingly lets an illegal vote. Iif all you have to do is walk up to the table and ask for a ballot(not showing ID), how in the world can there be statistics of whether or not that person is legal or not? Requiring ID is common sense. You must be a citizen to decide who runs this country. Dems constantly point out in immigration debates how there is tens of millions of illegals already here, you don't think there is the ability to shift an election there if they can all walk up and vote?

I have never shown my voter card to vote, I have always just showed an ID. I don't see the big deal, just produce an ID and you can vote.

Seems pretty common sense to me, if somebody doesn't have an ID they have 4 months to get one.

Frankly this shouldn't be up for debate, it's just common sense. Why take any chances?

The dems argument on this just doesn't make any sense.

  • Number of people who this would affect >>>>>>>greater than the number of people who have been guilty of voter fraud.

I agree there should be some sort of ID requirement, but if you do it too fast you risk disenfranchising tens of thousands of people.

  • Recent non-partisan studies showed the rates of voter fraud to be 0.00004% (less than 1 in 2 million votes) in Ohio and 0.0002% (1 in 500,000) votes in Wisconsin. Here's a summary of a study of the 2004 elections in New Jersey:

"The allegations yielded only eight substantiated cases of individuals knowingly casting invalid votes that counted -- eight voters who voted twice. Given the number of votes cast in these elections, this amounts to a rate of 0.0004%. None of these problems could have been resolved by requiring photo ID at the polls."

Illegal immigrants don't try to vote. In fact, every study has conclusively shown that voter fraud isn't a problem in the United States.

If voter fraud isn't a problem, making it more difficult for people to vote isn't a solution, it's just a way of making it more difficult for people to vote. While most Americans 18 years or older have some form of government photo ID, some don't, and that percentage is much higher than 1 in 500,000. In fact, it's about 11 percent. 18% of all senior citizens and 25% of African Americans don't have photo IDs.

P.S. all, under a photo I.D. law you couldn't show up with your birth certificate or social security card and vote. No photo.

The Republicans are so consumed with the acquisition of power they are willing to diminish our democracy by emgaging in the dissemfranchment of voters. What a pathetic, corrupt and corrosive party.

Obozo wants to stay in power so badly in spite of an abysmal record that he is willing to let illegals keep him there. This is the absolute worst administration in our country's history.

I've stated I have no problem with needing any proper form (note: not a single or small number of specific identification) of identification, but let's not act like the precipitator of this was some terrible scandal or study/report of voter fraud. The current trend has been a platform of GOP state congresses post-2010 elections to disenfranchise likely Dem voters. Nothing more, nothing less.

I may not be remembering this correctly, but No military votes were counted in 2008... "they were lost."

I'm only interested in suppressing non-citizens from voting in our elections. That seem reasonable, doesn't it?

I don't vote in Canada's elections. I don't vote in Mexico's either. Seems ridiculous that they should vote in ours.

Could someone link all these reports and studies on all these illegals voting and changing elections that has necessitated these laws?

    Thanks.

Just to be clear: I am a staunch advocate of disenfranchising every single individual that is not a U.S. citizen.

To simply presuppose that no illegal immigrants ever vote [if legitimate proof of id/citizenship is not is required to do so] suggests a cavalier disregard for the principle that out elections should be determined by U.S. citizens.

No one needs to guess as to the reasons underlying that agenda.

    Sigh

You have to be a US citizen to register to vote.

Do you really think there are thousands of people out there stealing birth certificates and SSN cards, so they can go* the the DMV and apply for a voters registration card? Thats the last thing someone is going to do with that information. "I no speak English, but me wanna vote really bad"

    Cmon bro.

There is definitely a "underlying agenda" when a right wing think tank sends out "Voter ID Legislation" and a dozen 'red" states try to pass it 6 months before an election.-

The issue isn't the ID, of course you should have to show an Photo ID. The issue is Democratic leaders don't see "Democracy in Action" when right wing think tanks create legislation. They see the "underlying agenda" and it just further polarizes the system.

I think the "C'mon bro" is the fact that all the Republicans ask is the letter of the law be followed and you make them out have an agenda because of it.

By the way there are Latino community groups in California that have Democratic party ties and think getting out the vote means everybody votes citizen or not. The bloody ballots here are both in english and spanish. Why do you think that is necessary?

If you're going to the democratic convention, you'll need a photo ID to get in.

the Dems are being ridiculous. We know, Barack wants illegal mexicans to vote. We get it.

You should have to give ID to vote. Cue Bamalivesfootba or some other Lib giving some strange instance where its oppressive to some New York City resident that doesnt drive or some BS like that.

We have an insane amount of illegals, they shouldn't vote. Period. Show ID.

    I give up.

Again...The issue isn't having an ID, the issue is how the legislation was created and implemented.

So...Climate Change isn't real despite hundreds of independent scientific studies, but illegals are voting by the millions despite a single arrest or prosecution of voter fraud anywhere.

We ought to test DNA samples too, because extra-terrestrials are known liberals and they are somehow stealing thousands of peoples voter registration cards, without anyone complaining or calling the police. This is real folks, because I read about it on the internet.

All you're saying is everything you believe in is 100% factual and everything I believe in is BS.

In other words a typical internet argument.

You need ID and a background check to buy a handgun. This was pushed for by the Democrats.

The Democrats are against ID checks for voting.

Votes do more long term damage than guns do.

    Figure it out.

Gun ownership is a privilege, not a Right. For all the hollering the Republicans do over smaller government this should be a no-brainer. It will cost the state tens of millions of dollars to subsidize IDs for the not-very-well-to-do, but I guess Republicans like frivolous spending. Out of all the statistics I've heard, based on this asinine assumption that voter fraud is rampant, I've never heard that fraud is over .01%. Get a life!

Edit: It SHOULD be a privilege, not a right. FWIW, I own a pistol and shotgun, so I'm not anti-gun. Forgot about the 2nd Amendment, duh!! [headdslap]

Bingo. Voter fraud is not a problem in the US, and hasn't been in our lifetimes. FFS, the Republican House Majority Leader of PA said that PA's Voter ID Law would "allow Governor Romney to win the state of Pennsylvania." There is no other motivation for these laws, they're just to disenfranchise demographics that typically lean blue.

Turzai: Voter ID Law Means Romney Can Win in PA | PoliticsPA

Speaking at the Republican state committee meeting Saturday, House Majority Leader Mike Turzai said that Voter ID will “allow Governor Romney to win” Pennsylvania as he ticked off a list of GOP accomplishments in Harrisburg.
