I specifically remember some ND fans trashing Manziel for getting arrested this summer. Nice glass house you guys are in while throwing rocks? Rape? Wow, at a supposed religious university? High standards you have there.

Well, the easily-stated connection is that Notre Dame is the most prominent Catholic university in the world, but that's not even what I was talking about.
I was talking about the motivations behind the act of sweeping the scandal under the rug. A theme through the Seeberg and Sullivan cases is that preserving the football team and the good name of the university is of paramount importance. If a few scandals end up hushed-up or swept under the rug, so be it. You see a similar mentality in the priest molestation cases - the message and sanctity of the Catholic church is of paramount importance, so if a few molested children have to be hushed up or swept under the rug, so be it.
Both took a very Machiavellian ("the ends justify the means") approach to hushing up potential scandals. Both viewed the preservation of reputation and entity as more important than exploring and analyzing the scandal-in-waiting.

I agree. They are hypocritical at best. "Look at us, we have the most upstanding player in the country!!" All the while hiding and downplaying this atrocious and disgusting incident.

Not really covered up. Just a lack of media coverage. Both instances were investigated by not just ND campus police but by the Indiana State Police. Both times there was not enough evidence to bring about cases. Do you think the State Police would help cover up such crimes?

I'm not sure about that, I thought ND was fined for the incident with Declan.
