I don't disagree, as well as a much better work ethic.

Oh but it does. The laziness of the latest generations is a very big problem. I think mandatory service should be a last resort, but we are headed straight for that. How many high school kids do you see doing manual labor anymore?

I know that illegal immigration would be down if we weren't lazy as a society.

So being free to choose my own path in life has to do with laziness? Not everyone is meant to serve in the military. I have quite a few family members who have chosen to serve and i respect that a ton but it is not for me.

So were lazy now that we go to college instead of working on a farm or a factory?

  • We aren't even close to heading towards mandatory service. All four branches are currently, what we call "realigning the force" aka down-sizing. The army is kicking 80,000+ out as we speak.

No sir, but people in general think they are too good to do certain jobs. I'm not too good to clean toilets or clean sewers or do whatever it takes to provide. And ten years shouldn't mean sh*t when it comes to heros dying in war. When we've become numb to that, there's a problem.

If a person has a better skill or knowledge to do something, the economy benefits from them doing said skill, not cleaning bathrooms.

On the war: it's been ten years. That's a long time to keep anyone from caring no matter what it is. Especially when we decide to seperate ourselves from war by not having a draft, not paying the due costs upfront.

That's the price of perpetual war. It becomes so commonplace, no one cares.

You mistook my comment, I'm not going to clean toilets forever brother, but I'm also not above it. There is a entitlement factor in this country like never before, and it's bs. On the other note, complacency kills.

You might not be above it, but I agree that millions of people think they are. And it's not just young people, though. I've met plenty of (older) people who have been laid off, and refuse to get a minimum-wage paying job, and will hold out to get a job that they've done their lives. My sister's fiance is one example. He was laid off two years ago, and instead of getting a job, any job to stay afloat he has been doing nothing, holding off for a better job. Meanwhile his wife is selling jewelery out of their home (which is about to be foreclosed on).

I agree its not an age thing, the reason young people might be lazy is because of the older parents being too lazy to raise them properly.

That is absolutely true. Here in Alabama since we have that new immigration law farmers are having trouble finding workers to do that hard manual labor. People are more lazy now and it really isn't even debatable. Sure, the majority of jobs now do not require that farm work or factory work, fact is the ones that do can't get people to work more than a week cause they got fired for being lazy and not hard working.

It isn't solely because people are lazy now, but to say that people are not more lazy than our parents/grandparents is laughable.

Also, i used to be fore stuff like forced military service, but as someone up above me stated it just isn't for them. They cannot handle that physical and mental standards that you need to have in a military life(I know, there are other jobs that also require those things, but not on a consistent basis such as that).

Overall, we are on a decline. No doubt about it, that is just the course that nations take. We may go back up, but i strongly doubt it. We don't have the industry to keep ourselves atop anymore.

This is a very good post. In my opinion this is a severe problem in our coutnry. If you are able to work, then do whatever job is available to you. I'm not saying to clean toilets if you have a PHD right off the bat, but take what you can get. I'm above no job, period.
