Ooh, maybe you could pretend that you have a friend that runs an apartment house that takes welfare checks in rent? Then you could discuss the Lexus and Mercedes in the parking lot?

Are you 12 or 13? I cant quite figure it out.

My uncle owns about 10 section 8 apartments and the government pays most of their rent. Does that count

Nope..I still think you are a liar about what you claim to see....you only do it because of your obvious disgust with people who are on any sort of government aid program..

Nice that you have relatives who are slum lords though.

Thanks, it's pretty slum of him that he actually fixed up houses so people with very little money can have a place to live and raise their family instead of them living on the streets. What a douche bag if you ask me

  • Besides that AM, you know damn well the media could address how many people died on a certain day in war, and make it a big story. Sad part is that they don't choose to do that, they choose to molest stories and turn them into racial crap when they aren't. They sensationalize every damn story they touch nowadays.

Yes....but you are talking about a ten year war, where there was nothing happening around the time you specifically are talking about.

This country has a very long tradition of the media covering wars. During the first Gulf War, the Pentagon finally figured out that they really did not want that war covered, and that policy has remained in effect today. There have been a few cases of the occasional reporter who will contract out with organizations like Haliburton to have them to the actual fighting, but the military does not want the American press out there. The best part of that has been, that the only real reporting about our military and the work they do, comes from British, Canadian and unfortunately Arab press.

I agree that our priorities are out of whack in this country. The fact that there are Kardasians running free everywhere is proof of this. The reporting on the War on Terror is not related to these priority issues in any way. The various governments in the last 20 years (BOTH Democrat and Republican) have taken the route that the press does them no good in times of war, so they keep them out. There are only so many ways to report that Private Smith was killed in action, and thats the whole story we are able to get on any of this. Someone is killed with no explanation, or understanding of how or why. Blame the people in charge, because all our constitutional rights regarding a free press are not valid in a foreign war.

This is a damn good post and true. I don't trust any politician anymore, none of them. That doesn't clear the media either though, but I guess they have to report what will be bought. I hate republican, and I hate democrat, and neither were the reason I wanted to defend our country. I did it for the familes that can't do it for themselves. I did it for the elderly being taken advantage of. I did it for you and me. I just hate how our country has turned out. I hate all the political correctness, and all the politics. I hate all the self entitlements, and I hate the manipulation. I hate that we can't chant USA in our own country, or that we can only fly our flag in certain places. But I love that I'm an American and have freedom.

Absolutely. I know people need some welfare sometimes to get back on their feet, but if you are habitually on welfare then I am kicking your butt off if i am the gov. But, thats the truly saddening thing, the government has their own agenda and do not do that.

My best friend is on food stamps because his father works at panera and his mom is unemployed and plays shit like farmville all day.... She claims she can't work because her back is hurt... my friend took her to a doctor who did a test and the result said she had the back of a healthy 35 year old man... There is some serious stuff wrong with people in this country

Prime example right there. for every story where people honestly need it, there are at least 3 more who abuse it, and that is being generous. I don't see an end in sight either. There will have to be a truly radical change, and then determination to see it through for about 5 years or more to get it back on the upward track.

  • What constitutes hard work in your mind, though? This may not apply to you, but there's this perception among a lot of (older) Americans that "hard work" is only work that requires physically demanding labor (that usually pays poorly). My father is a doctor and works his ass off with long hours and has done so for over 30 years and after all of this still makes it a point to care deeply for all of his patients, but because he makes good money and is paid for his brain, not his brawn (he's in excellent shape, so you don't have to make "lazy, fat" comments) he gets viewed as not being as hard of a worker. My chosen field is advertising and graphic design, again, another field where I'm being paid for my intellectual ability, not my athletic ability. But to a lot of people, being smart is viewed as "lazy" where as being physically gifted or working manual labor is viewed as "American." I say as long as you take care of yourself and work your ass off at whatever you choose to do, no one has the right to judge you.

Oh, and so you know USMCAG, two of my cousins grew up in Israel and did the required 2 year service in the Israeli military. One is getting her PhD from Harvard and the other was an NYU film grad but is now getting is law degree from Harvard. We call them the overachievers of the family. lol

I used to have a more hard stance on this(Pretty narrow minded) so now I pretty much agree with what you said. As long as you are working really hard at what you do then you are not lazy, now out of shape is different but a personal matter for the most part. Either way, we need doctors and we need people who are good with technology like yourself so clap. I just have a huge problem with the people that do not do any work and expect to get paid anyways...

You guys seem like cool, level-headed gents, so it really wasn't directed at y'all. A friend of mine and I just had a good discussion about this (he's getting his Masters in Finance) about how a lot of people look down on people who got successful with their brain but laud people who did so with their brawn. Think about how many people dog people like Bill Gates but who love guys like Peyton Manning. Now, they might say that athletes shouldn't get paid as much, but it's usually not directed at specific players. And as FT said, this world needs doctors and designers, too. As long as you strive to be the best at your field, you're helping this great country. That's how I feel about it.

True, but if you asked the average person who worked harder, the guy who spent 30 hours this week in the library cramming for his MCATs or the guy who spent 30 hours this week in football practice, most would say the latter. Obviously, y'all are the exception.

I hate the fact that athletes make so much damn money, it's ridiculous, but that's the capatalistic society we live in, and I agree with it. I think that we all should hav the choice of who makes the money and who doesn't.

The thing that gets me is that those in the entertainment businesses, including sports, make so much money because people are willing to pay to see them. And they're willing to do so because they feel they need an escape from their everyday lives and jobs. My question is: Why do we have SO many people that need that much of an escape? I mean I realize that's not for everyone, but people wouldn't be willing to pay AS MUCH if they didn't feel they needed as much of an escape.

One of my favorite quotes of all time is, “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” There's a good chance I'm going to be making crap for money as a graphic designer. But you know what? I don't care, because I love what I do. I'll make the finances work.
