Both Butler and Big Z were all-star within 2 seasons of the seasons in question. Lakers missed the playoffs in 05, Butler was all-star in 07, 08.

Butler averaged 15.5 a game, Ilgauskas 11 and 7. Odom averaged 15 also, with 10 rebounds to match.

LBJ made the finals when Big Z averaged 11 and 7, and Larry Hughes just under 15 a game. His best two players combined to average under 26 a game.
Kobe when he didn't make the playoffs best two players average 30 a game.
Says a lot.
