There was a post on here the other day talking about how teams in the SEC should'nt have to play anybody OOC because the SEC is so good. Some of the posters said that you get beat up so much playing in the SEC conference that nothing is wrong with playing all cupcakes outside of the SEC.
Delusional, maybe? But hey, maybe they are right. So I decided to compare the schedules of Alabama and USC going all the way back to 1990. So who do you guys think played the harder schedule over the last 22 years?
Obviously, what the deciding factor will be is if Alabama's conference schedule will make up enough for their lack of OOC high profile games. No postseason games are considered here, since the debate about SOS is what determines how gets picked for BCS bowls and with the new selection committee format coming soon, it will be more debated than ever 2 years from now.
Sorry, but there was no way to do this without creating a super long post, so I'll just put the results here first, and then I'll just throw down all the games after so you can see for yourself, if you are interested in this.
The results: Bama's conf schedule makes up some ground, but not nearly enough, as there was only a 7 game advantage for the Tide over 22 years in the amount of 10 game winning teams each team faced.
Bama's non-existent OOC schedule and USC's willingness to take on anybody is what gives USC a giant edge in SOS over Alabama. USC played approx 2 seasons worth of games (24) 147-123, more than Alabama did against winning teams. The fact that Alabama's win at Penn St this year was their only win on the road vs an AQ winning team since 1990, almost seems to incredible to be true. Sad, but true.

In his defense USC has tried scheduling SEC schools and they all decline.
"We've talked to a lot, if not all, of the SEC schools about playing in the future," Lopes said. "I can't get into who said yes and who said no, but we have conversations with a lot of schools. Scheduling is a hard thing because sometimes you want to play each other but it doesn't work out from a timing standpoint."
USC is 4-0 vs. the SEC under coach Pete Carroll. The Trojans outscored Auburn and Arkansas 167-38 in those home-and-home matchups, including a 23-zip win at then-No. 6 Auburn in 2003 and a 50-14 bludgeoning of the eventual SEC West Division champion Razorbacks in 2006.
The SEC has since then stopped all talks with USC for scheduling OOC games.
"They are a football scheduler's dream," said Dave Brown, ESPN's Vice President, Programming & Acquisitions. "They are one of the rare schools that continues to play all of their nonconference games -- in most years -- against BCS teams ... If everybody did it that way, it would certainly be a lot easier for us to schedule games."

People are so angry that drastic changes are being made to the game. Unfortunately for them, they are all but guaranteeing that the SEC Champ will now have a permanent representative in the "Final Four" every year.
Their overreactions may backfire.

They could have come and gotten beat in the '08 Sugar Bowl or allowed the Rose to invite UGA, but they stood in the way of that and pussied out.
Also, we had your "powerhouse" school on the schedule a few years down the road, but your AD wasn't man enough to actually finalize that and backed out. Just like Oregon and Oregon State.
