I think there is something to be said in some circumstances for wanting to live, especially with really old people. However, the cancer probably did not effect his heart.

He was also much, much younger than either of the other two men when they got out of coaching. He also kept working, although obviously not as a coach.

It was actually the chemo that killed him. Losing his only job ever and being publicly disgraced probably didnt help his will to live
