Tony Romo a top 5 QB?

  • Ichabod said...

I can see an arguement for Stafford but Schaub and Ryan?

    Nope

Yeah Ryan is overrated, dude has never worried me. Schaub is decent...

Both of those are not as good as Romo, no way.

Schaub is extremely injury prone and has one the best WRs in the NFL to throw to.

Ryan hasnt won a playoff game (Romo has at least won one)

Stafford had an amazing season last year and my fantasy football team was extremely grateful for it but we need to see him stay healthy consistently

As stated Romo's career QBR is exceptional however that doesnt make him a better overall QB than most

I'm not comparing Romo to Marino at all. Marino is one of the greatest but to just use the Super Bowl arguement is dumb.

Thats what Rivver is saying in a sense. By just using the Super Bowl arguement then you're saying guys like Dilfer and Brad Johnson are better than Marino

  • You can use Super Bowl wins as an argument, but not the ONLY argument imo.

For example, Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady played excellent in the season(s) they won Super Bowls. You can't discount that achievement just because "it's the team". They had excellent stats to back it up.

  • A few people have placed Romo ahead of Ben. I find that interesting since Ben has proven multiple times to be as clutch as they come. Romo? The anti-clutch.

  • Top 5? I don't know I think he is in that territory, but here is my list:

    1)Brady
    2)Brees
    3)Rodgers
    4)Healthy Peyton
    5)Eli

6-8 are any of these three

    Romo
    Rivers
Roethlisberger(although if Rivers or Romo had his D they would also have 2 SB wins)

  • I am a die hard life long Cowboy's fan so I have earned the right to say that he is top 5 only if the league shrinks to 5 teams. Even then I may rank some back ups above him. All stats no stones!

Honestly, while Romo's career stats are marginally better, I would rather have Ryan under center if I were building a team from scratch and those two were my QB choices.

In other words, if you are asking about my fantasy team, give me Romo. If you are asking about my team actually winning on the field, and not creating some mystical way to lose the game in the 4th, give me Ryan.

See you're from GA. So I sense homerism from you. But using Romo hate logic, what had Ryan done in the playoffs?

As long as we're not talking fantasy
    Schaub>Ryan>Romo

Ryan and Schaub don't single-handedly lose games against teams like Detroit.

I don't think he is great. He is a solid QB, not a major liability, but not likely to win the game for you single-handedly. Maybe he will prove us all wrong this year, but if he doesn't show a big step back toward his rookie year performance, I have to assume that slightly above average is the best he will ever be.

  • As a Lions fan, I wouldn't trade Stafford for Romo. And there's no way I'd put Stafford in consideration for top 5.

I bet every team in the league would draft Stafford over Romo right now. Except for maybe the Cowboys, because Jerry Jones is gonna be Jerry Jones.

Nothing. He hasn't done that in the video, either, or anything really like it. I don't think his stats are enough better to justify that sort of inconsistency and special ability to collapse under pressure.

For me it boils down to neither QB will win you a game by themselves, especially not a playoff game, but Romo WILL lose it by himself, whereas I don't have that worry with Ryan. You aren't going to build a team around either guy though.

    Play

Tony Romo's Botched Hold from long snapper.

Tony Romo botched the snap and lost the game to the Seahawks.

That is a no brainer. Stafford >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Romo.

And I don't just say that because I am a UGA fan. Matt is an elite talent, Romo is...not.

  • Nope.

    1.Rodgers

    2.Brady

    3.Peyton

    4.Brees

    5.Eli

6.Roethlisberger but he’s still overrated IMO

    7.Stafford

    8.Rivers

    9.Romo

    10.Ryan

Romo has been the centerpiece of an overrated Dallas team for the past few years.

He's won more for them than lost

Does he make boneheaded plays? Sure but he has that gunslinger mentality and bonehead plays go with that mentality
