So based on this list rock bands are pretty much the only ones to rip off other's music? Rap, pop, country, and R&B artists are 100% original?

I don't care for him either and haven't heard one of his songs in a while but for some reason I thought I heard him sing a country song.

I don't see any of it as ripping off other musicians. These songs belong to whomever wrote them and of course they give permission for commercial reproduction and get paid accordingly. There are plenty of singers/bands who improve original versions of songs and again, all of the money goes to the writer where it belongs. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Lenny Kravitz on the list makes me laugh. I don't really care what he chooses to sing, he's a great artist and entertainer. Good for him.

Rap and hip hop are a genre that has nearly defined itself in borrowing riffs from other songs. County, rock, R&B owe their beginnings to the Blues.

Numerous poor blacks have never seen a dime from elvis songs they wrote and he stole...he basically ripped off blues guys for the first few years of his career...it was more his mgmt team than him but still...at least puffy and kanye pay the people they borrow from...

Thank you!! At least the Brits gave the Blues greats their due, by specifically naming them as major influences in their music. People like Clapton and the Stones insisted that these gentlemen be introduced to American audiences by demanding (before signing an appearance contract) they open for them.

I'll never forget in the 1960s, at the Fillmore in S.F., a Stones concert, and this older Black gentleman that I had no clue who he was, walks on stage with his band, and proceeds to blow our minds....it was Howlin' Wolf.

Mick Jagger walked out on stage after that performance and stating, in awe..."How do you follow that?" You don't, and you can't...you're just happy you're on the same stage with that great talent.

He's making the jump over to old, southern gospel now. Should be an interesting album to say the least.

OK. I finally opened the link. That's the dumbest idea for a Top 10 list I've ever seen. It's freaking music. Some of it sounds like other music. Hell, is the guy going to do a Top 10 Colors that Resemble Other Colors list now?

10) Fuschia - This guy is just dying to be pink!
9) Sky Blue - Even stole its name from the original.
8) Brown - Took a little of everyone and did a poor job of making it his own!
7) Magenta - A poor man's red.
6) Chartruce - Spicy version of green, but still a rip off.
5) Black - Come on now. The absence of all colors? How original!
4) Purple - You fooled kings for years, but we all now know you aren't worth your weight in gold.
3) Tan - See #8 and add a cup of B-O-R-I-N-G!
2) Pearl - Fancy name, but you're still just plain, old, boring white.
1) Green - We all know you're really just yellow and blue.
