Florida St has some incoming freshmen who is a blazer on the track, 10.2 speed.

Ronald Darby. He ran a 10.50 last weekend.

Pretty sure he was referring to Marvin Bracy, who went 10.05 to win the USA junior title and has gone sub-10.2 several times.

  • Long speed is great. But give me short shuttle quickness out of your breaks.

If you can't control that speed it doesn't matter.

You will hardly ever have to run 70- 80 yards in one play in football. Its about short area explosion, and that's why I look more at short shuttles for Linebackers, safties, wide outs. Corners have to be fast and rbs too in spread offense.

    Didn't Marcus Dupree run under 10 at 220+ ? BamaDookie ?

    That was 100 yards.

Jabrill Peppers...More I watch, the more I'm convinced he is the best player in the 2014 class. Barring injury, he will do special things.

Bo Jackson ran a 10.39 when he was in college and he was at least 220 lbs

Cameron Luper (future Auburn tiger) just ran a 10.61 last week.

    Cameron Luper is NASTY.

Not sure what happened last weekend in the 100m final as he only ran 11.51 as the winner was former Alabama commit Justin Thomas who is now headed to Georgia Tech for football. Thomas ran 10.79 but into a -1.5m/s headwind....meaning he can go high 10.5x/low 10.6x with a tailwind.

Luper did win the 6A State Championship in:
    4x100m Relay
    Long Jump
200m Dash (shortly after his 11.51 in the 100m....so obviously he wasn't seriously injured in the 100m race)- 21.28 in finals after running 21.24 in the prelims

    Luper can move....

Yes, but he is faster than 10.2. Bracy has run 10.01. Him, his cousin Levante Whitfield, and Cameron Burrell(Leroy Burrell's son) are the future of U.S. sprinting.

Bracy ran 10.05w last year and 10.06w but both were wind-aided. His fastest legal time is 10.25.

I think he can go low 10.0x but he hasn't done it yet. The below is still the current High School All-Time Top 10. I keep up with it because I followed the former record holder, J-Mee Samuels from the time he was around 10 years old (1997) to when he broke the record in 2005 at age 18 as he has a plethora of age-group sprint records (60m, 100, 200m) from age 13-14 to age 18.

    100 METERS
10.01 Jeff Demps (South Lake, Groveland, Florida) 2008
    10.08 J-Mee Samuels (Mt Tabor, Winston-Salem, North Carolina) 2005
10.13 Derrick Florence (Ball, Galveston, Texas) 1986
10.15 Henry Neal (Greenville, Texas) 1990
10.16 Houston McTear (Baker, Florida) 1976
10.18 Roy Martin (Roosevelt, Dallas, Texas) 1985
10.20 Brendan Christian' (Reagan, Austin, Texas) 2002
10.21 Joe DeLoach (Bay City, Texas) 1985
Jonathan Wade (Evangel Christian, Shreveport, Louisiana) 2002
    (A) Willie Hordge (Forest Brook, Houston, Texas) 2002

Jabrill Peppers...More I watch, the more I'm convinced he is the best player in the 2014 class. Barring injury, he will do special things.

  • The kid to watch out for in the future is Bryce Love, a 14 year-old 9th grader at Wake-Forest Rolesville High School in Wake Forest, NC. He ran sub 4.4 last year at age 13 and has run 10.6x. So Love could beat De'Anthony Thomas right now as a 14 year old 9th grader. Yeah, he's SICK.

Love has the 11-12 year old World Record at:
    100m
    200m
    400m

13-14 year old World Record at:
    100m
    200m

He's also a RB for his high school football team and he's NASTY on the field. He is good friends with 2012 UGA RB commit Keith Marshall as they ran for the same track club.

Jabrill Peppers...More I watch, the more I'm convinced he is the best player in the 2014 class. Barring injury, he will do special things.

LSU commit Brazil is up there too. According to him he slipped coming out if the blocks and still had 10.2+.

George Atkinson III returned 2 KO's back for TD's last year that were 80+ yards.

    Speed kills I know that.
    Speed + quickness= Unstoppable.

but I agree speed is something that is a game changer.

Nothing wrong with that. Allen is one of the fastest juniors in the country, especially running hurdles.

Besides, Darby probably just had a bad day.

The fastest I've ever seen him run was away from Notre Dame....

Atkinson, both of them, can fly. George is a great kickoff returner, but I am far from convinced he'll be a factor as a position player, especially at RB. Once he finds a crease he is gone, but he doesn't have that elite elusiveness. Nobody knew where to play him. He's big and super fast, but his "athleticism"(for lack of a better word) isn't that great. I see possibly the same thing with USC's George Farmer.

I'm pretty sure that's the wrong Atkinson. George plays on offense, his brother plays D.

Exactly change of direction and making people miss are very important in football.

Nope, that is in fact George http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recruiting/football/news/story?id=5902526. His brother didn't even play in the U.S. AA game.

  • Interesting. What is he doing playing on D?

Or is that a kick off or after an interception? I'm confused.

That is him getting punked by James Wilder, he was listed as an athlete but played D in the AA game. He played safety in high school. Nobody knew where to play the kid, I think a lot of programs recruited him to play D.

  • Thanks, didn't know that. I did see a run of his in the ND spring game that impressed me. It'll be interesting to see if he can make an impact.

  • I know this is about the 100, but you gotta put USC Running Back D J Morgan on any list
He ran a 13.28 110 meter hurdles as a HS Junior Which I believe was the second fastest ever for his age group

He also won the city section in the 100m(pretty sure both his sophomore and junior years), but was injured as a senior. He went 10.63 as a junior in the LA city finals. http://www.athletic.net/trackandfield/Athlete.aspx?AID=1142853
