Top 20 college football programs by spending

  • Just signed up and wanted to contribute right away to the discussions. Here's a list of the top 20 programs that spend the most cash in college football. I'm am in fact surprised Oregon or Clemson are not on the list. Here is the link: http://www.beyondusports.com/top-20-biggest-spending-programs-college-football/

Does anybody find the fact Auburn is No.1 a surprise at all?

  • Lol What does AU spend that on?

Lebron James will never be as good as Michael Jordan, thus we should get rid of his nickname, "The King".

  • Well, that is why I was surprised that it's No.1 ...I mean look, who knows if those figures are 100% accurate but even if they are somewhat accurate, i'm surprised.

Seriously. They are spending a couple million more than the second place team. i know they don't pay their coaches any more than UA does. Maybe new facilities?

  • What's funny is they spend more than Bama but their revenue is almost identical. And why the heck is Oregon not one of the top spenders, because they're certainly one of the top earners.

That new practice facility. Face lift to the stadium, probably addition to the stadium this summer.

  • These types of studies really aren't reliable...There's no standardized way to report this data, and every school decides to take liberties with it.

Because the CEO of Nike is a UO alum, and graciously donates all of their stuff to 'em.

  • A new indoor practice facility put us on the map for that. Also you got to spend money on facilities to be able to keep up with the changing game. We also have some of the highest paid assistant coaches in the country.

  • Actually that's a good point. How much is VanGorder going to be making anyway and what's the budget for the new OC most likely ? Can't you make the same argument as far as coaching budgets to the other top programs? I didn't realize Auburn spent millions on a few facility...I supposed that would explain the gap in income compared to Bama.

I think its 850K for vangorder and we will shell out close to 1M for an OC I'm sure...which will probable be less total money than last season

It would be nice but we can't sell out games after a natty so idk if we ever will, but if they do expand they should make out student section big enough for 20K + because we would fill it up

That's what I was thinking. There has to be a ton of demand for tickets to expand.

yeah its easy for Bama to expand...you could make your stadium 120 and have no problem filling it because you control about 2/3 of the state, also our ticket prices went up a good bit this year which may have contributed to the decline in attendance, not to mention the suck that was on the field but i would love to expand and cheapen the tickets so more fans could come. I mean Jordan Hare is loud now, just think if we got up to 95K ish with about 3K of those being students

Why doesn't AU expand the student section to make up for the unsold tickets? I went to the Iron Bowl and was impressed with the students participation. Adding more room for them seems like a good idea to me anyways.

  • That's pretty much what I expected. As for the OC, I guess it will depend somewhat on who they hire....who is in line right now as the top candidate? I keep hearing Cignetti from Rutgers, but to me it doesn't make much sense because he's a pro-style playcaller and auburn runs a spread I believe.
