Top 3 reasons Notre Dame will never win National championship

  • It's easy pay someone 180,000 bucks and get a mnc.

    3. But UF and LSU also have multiple NC's . There have been even more since the start of the game in 98'. The SEC has won 8 out of the 15 NC games. We are 8-1 in them as well (only loss is to another SEC team).

    Bama (09', 11', 12') LSU (03', 07') [played for another in 11'] UF (06', 08') Tennessee (98') AU (10')

I'm not doubting the strenght of the top team each of those years. I'm just saying as far as ND goes, people say, "they finally faced a real team in Alabama. SEC! SEC!" The fact is they were THE top team in that conference. You can't say because they beat up on ND so bad that ND couldn't hang with others in the SEC. I simply used the UF/Louisville game as an example because that doesn't mean they are better than everyone UF beat. Same as ND, that doesn't mean Georgia (or any SEC team for that matter) would beat them just because they played a closer game with Alabama.

Just curious - why is that fans from the SEC get a hard on to root for your rivals? Does it justify your team not winning the title? I mean, I look at this way. Lets say I was a Duke basketball fan. Never would I root for a UNC, NC State, UVA, or any other ACC team to win it all. That's bragging rights over your team. I have always wondered that - maybe I'm in the minority but that just seems odd to me.

I'm assuming you formed your opinion from the ND/Alabama game? So is it ok for me to say that Louisville is better than pretty much the entire SEC since they walked the dogs on Florida? You can't compare Alabama to the SEC until someone can actually knock them from the top spot. A&M played a great game and beat them but they still won the SEC conference. Is the SEC the best conference? Sure, but again, how many of those 7 or 8 consecutive titles does Alabama have?

Listen, the whole white boy thing for our DB's isn't the problem. Last I checked, the last one we had starts for the Vikings and Motta(our most current one) will be drafted as well. ND's problem this year was a lack of offense and no depth defensively. Just for the record, they lost their starting CB for the year during spring ball and their top CB recruit left (because of homesickness I believe). ND is on the right track and our QB was only a freshman.

PS: USC will never win a NC with Lane Kiffin as coach. You had the talent to be special this year but you saw how that went.

I agree we won't win crystal in 2013.

  • I don't really understand why people don't get rooting for your conference to win OoC games. It has nothing to do with "liking" teams like Auburn; I won't be heart broken if they lose. But if our conference looks strong due to them winning, that means the teams at the top get the benefit of the doubt when it comes to polls due to "strength" of schedule. Everyone always complains that they don't think the SEC is as strong as we make it out to be or they get mad when an SEC team jumps another conference team in the polls, but a large part in those things happening is perception. Right or wrong, perception gets us votes, votes put us in the big game, and then we win the big game.

So, I support whatever helps along the road to the championship.

I disagree with you on ND being able to compete with the other tip top SEC teams. I'm not saying it's not possible, just not probable. When our teams play in big games they get up for it. The SEC has never lost a NC game. We beat UGA, but had to stop them inside the 10 on the last drive to do so. They were pretty good. I feel like if a few teams in the SEC played for it all, they would have been very tough to beat. I would have picked them to win. I;m not trying to flame when I say this b/c I think you guys are well ahead of schedule with Kelly, but I'm not so sure you played a decent team all year outside of us. There were a few questionable games on your record. The Pitt game being the biggest.

As for the SEC stuff....I can't speak for everyone but it's mostly a cost/benefit thing to me. We play a difficult schedule and feel like we should be rewarded for it. That goes for all of us. A team with two losses form the SEC should go ahead of a team from the ACC or Big 10 or PAC 12 or whatever. That will continue to happen as long as we all keep up our history of winning. So for that to happen you want need other teams to do well because in the end it helps you. We never would have gotten to win the NC in 11' if for not being in the SEC. Oklahoma State would have gone instead and gotten blown out against LSU. I think a lot also have a never again type of attitude after an undefeated Auburn team got left out of the NC game in 04'. We know how hard it is to go through the SEC and win all those road games. We that happens, they should get a chance over some of the others with an easier path.

Also, we cheer for each other out of respect. It's like a civil war between Southern states. It's like, well, we might have lost to Louisiana, but at least the champion this year is Southern (SEC). You might not believe me when I say it and that's fine, but it's different down here. it's a 24/7 365 day a year shi* talking fest about football. We never take a break from it. It's more important to us, and we feel like the honors of being the champion belong with the people who live it on a consistent basis.

Wow, I ask this question all the time in this s-hole SEC loser town in Georgia that I call home for now. They pull that SEC card all the time when their team hasn't sniffed a national championship since hmmm 1980.

I always use my Red Sox fandom and try to make sense of rooting for division/conference rivals in the yanks/sox rivalry. Do you really think I would ever pull for the Yankees EVER? Hell no!!!

It is their way of feeling like winners in which they thrive off the 3 teams that actually win the championships and it helps them sleep better at night. Kind of sad if you ask me.

Division rival- SEC fans say when their rivals win championships it makes them look better. Any other conference and league in the world doesn't give a sh*t about what their rivals do and hate them more for winning it all. The SEC is backwards.

Read my post above. In pro baseball you can lose 60-70 games in a row and limp into the playoffs. It doesn't matter as long as you get there. Nobody's success but your own matters. In college football, every single game you play matters. Not only that, but the type of season your opponents have matter too. If you have one loss on your resume and it's to a team that dropped the lat 6 games, you are screwed. But if you have a loss and that team is kicking ass, then you look much, much better. Can you really not understand this or are you trolling? I find it very unlikely anyone is this dumb. You are comparing pizza to mexican food.

  • Yes strength of schedule is huge, honestly I could care less about what Notre Dame's opponents do every week but in the end it does matter. But you will never catch me cheering on USC, Michigan, Michigan St, or Stanford. I just let everything play out, when your team goes undefeated and plays a reasonably tough schedule then things will be right at the end.

  • Yeah there are only about 3 teams in the SEC that are consistently good. The thing of it is those teams are EXTREMELY good year in and year out. I don't think any team in the country could have beat Alabama that night. The south in general is so college football centric that if your favorite team isn't winning or doing good then I suppose it would be easier to hop on the coattails and root for the entire conference.

Perfect example of this is 2011. Alabama lost to LSU, Oklahoma state lost to Iowa state. Alabama got in. I guarantee if OSU had a better loss they'd have gotten the nod. I will say that I wouldn't root for Auburn in a title game. For LSU, Tennessee, and Georgia it would depend on the opponent. All others I'd root for regardless.

Have fun once your streak ends, basically Bama is in front of all of CFB I don't see anything that points to any other SEC team being better than the top of other conferences.

I actually called an upper at my job a coattail rider after he was talking crap about the NC game. I didn't realize U of Georgia was part of the NC and I will be looking for the banner to be raised in the fall at Sanford Stadium.

This. And I'd have taken them over K state too. I'd take Alabama, LSU, A&M, Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina over either Big 12 champ. I'd take most of those against FSU (Florida already did it). I'd take most of them against Stanford too. You get the point. The SEC's bottom dwellers may be pretty weak, but that top 6 is a force to be reckoned with.

  • Ahh - it's all cyclical

This same thread was started (insert Alabama) pre-Saban when Alabama was losing to 1-AA teams......

and the guy who said "not so fast now on Brian Kelly" relating him to Ty and Charlie - that's a fair opinion - but the difference is recruiting. Ty was a terrible recruiter and a terrible coach - Charlie only recruited offensive talent and did not bother to even coach defense. Go back and look at his classes and you will see his strategy was to try and "outscore" teams - did not quite work out.
