Top offensive line evaluators

Some programs just have an eye for talent and no programs have a better eye for offensive line talent than Iowa and Wisconsin.

  • Can't argue with the success these three programs have had in developing offensive line talent.

Off the top of my head I can think of 7 guys on the oline from 2008 til this upcoming year that were drafted.

    ReasonableDoubt

  • Developing, there's a diffrerence. Pretty easy to take 5 stars and make them decent.

Identifying and developing talent described in this article is a lot different than grabbing high-4 and 5 star recruits.

By your judgement, they should write an article about how good USC is at 'identifying and developing' QB and WR talent, Alabama at OL, Notre Dame at TE, FSU at DL, etc. etc.

It's not hard to identify the best players in the country. It's the other ones that are tough to find.

  • No position has more bust 5 stars and great 2 stars than ol. Most good ol were not highly ranked.

    ReasonableDoubt

  • If that's the case then Bama better start recruiting more two stars.

Come on. Most good ol were not highly ranked? Are you serious?

Best OL on our team, warmack, was a three star from georgia that didn't have an uga offer.

Look at the first round last year. Kalil was highly ranked. Riley reiff, zeitler and decastro were three stars.

2011 first round- tyron smith was highly ranked
Nate solder, castonzo, carpenter, carimi were all three stars or less out of high school.

Star rankings mean very little on the OL.

Current college players weren't included in this breakdown but if you look at bama's four major NFL prospects right now, only Warmack wasn't highly recruited. The other three were guys my girlfriend could've picked out as players. This piece was about the staffs that have found talent consistently where others haven't.

I understood. Just saying that so many highly ranked ol end up being a bust that it's hard to devalue a staff's evaluating.

Yeah. This isn't meant to devalue anybody's evaluating.

It was an easy connection because Iowa/Wisconsin have the most OL in the past five years AND they get undervalued guys. Of course at somewhere like Alabama if you pick the best guys and then turn the best guys into NFL guys, that doesn't mean you're lesser evaluators. But I think it's hard to argue that the coaches that have turned these Iowa/Wisconsin guys into NFLers don't have some very distinct talent at evaluating/developing. The point is not to slight anyone else that's done it with the 5-stars.

No slights, just conversation. Preciate u guys' work.

I actually agree that iowa n wisconson routinely churn out no name draftees. Stanford is another good choice.

Lol undervalued guys because 247 and rivals say so...I can't believe that the Midwest gets no respect for offensive line men and there only good because there coached up... What a joke both of these sites were made up by people from the south..

Maybe you should try reading the article champ. Star rankings were not the proof that they were undervalued, it was a statement made to help give a gauge of the general talent level these players were seen as having in high school because as has already been pointed out, it's pretty damn easy to see an elite player but not as easy when you start getting to everyone else. The important evidence of their undervalued stock is that both schools took guys with typically no more than a couple BCS offers and even a couple that didn't have even have MAC level offers.

Undervalued by colleges too. Did Ohio State offer any of those three-stars? Nope.

Then why are 5 of the top 10 offensive tackle prospects in this class NOT from the South (and I am counting Texas and Kentucky as the South)
