Other than that, Chizik has lost 5 games every season he has coached. How does that make him a great coach? Cam taking over, running Malzahn's offense and making up for Chizik's shitty defense won the ring, not Chizik's coaching. How is Auburn a national contender without Cam? I haven't seen it and you won't see it this year. Do you disagree with that? Do you see Auburn losing fewer than 3 games in 2012? I don't, I see them losing 4 and that isn't a national contending team.
4+ losses in 3/4 years as a head coach isn't a national contender. It's an average program. That's what Auburn will be under Chizik, IMO. 2013 could be a strong year and possibly change my mind but I doubt it. I just don't think Chizik is a top tier SEC coach. Btw, plenty of schools recruit top 10 classes consistently and don't compete nationally. Over the past several years, Miami, FSU, UGA, Tennessee come to mind. That's what happens when you have an average coach which is what I believe AU has in Chizik.
Honestly, what kind of record do you see Auburn finishing with this year? Again, I say 8-4.

Nick Fairley played defense, iirc. Many teams could have won titles with all the players Saban recruits as well. That's why signing the best players is so important and helps coaches become "better coaches".
With all the talent we've signed at key positions the past few years, and the fact that we've made great hires on the defensive side of the ball, only a Bama homer would think Auburn isn't on the way to a period of sustained success.

Auburn has recruited well the past few years but take a look around the SEC...Alabama has recruited better, LSU, UGA, Florida are all right there and Petrino continues to win with his kind of players. He doesn't need a bunch of 5*'s in his system to be successful. I just think Auburn under Chizik will look a lot more like 2009 and 2011 (not to mention his debacle at ISU) than 2010 and I've already said why...Cam is gone and nobody like him is coming any time soon. It was an anomaly and the seasons outside of it support that theory.
I do think Van Gorder will help but it will take time because your defense really was so, so bad last season. I just don't think Chizik is a top tier SEC coach. I'll say again that I think Auburn goes 8-4 this year for a 3rd season out of 4 with 4+ losses for Chizik...and I'll ask you again...what do you say your record will be this season? It shouldn't take a coach 3 years to rebuild a program that just won a national title if he is as great and Auburn is as strong as you say they are...so surely 2012 will kick off this "period of sustained success" with 10+ wins, right?
