I've used both side by side from day 1. I don't think it's as cut and dry as simple-vs-customizable as the majority of Android buyers aren't power users and don't change anything. For the most part its a matter of price point and carrier loyalty. Something that contributes to the popularity of the S3 is that it's available on every platform, which was unheard of until recently (with the iPhone 4). Which means if you didn't have AT&T, you got an Android instead of an iPhone, and this was the only factor involved in people's decision making -- but the same people who really only got Androids because they were locked into Verizon contracts decided it was because only hipsters and fanboys bought iPhones.
Iphones also tend to have better parts, and up until recently always cost more. There's a reason no Android has a screen that even comes close to the iphone's screen quality, and up until recently the touch screen responsiveness couldn't hold a candle.

the one x and nexus 4 have a screen as good or better than the iphone 5.
the droid DNA has a screen way better than the iphone 5. 5 inch, 1080p, 441 ppi vs. 330 ppi for the iphone 5.
and iphone don't have "better parts". the iphones are made up of:
memory chips sourced from Samsung and Sandisk, battery from Samsung or sony, screen from sharp. point being, apple doesn't make anything they use in the phones.

Just called Verizon to return this phone and just go back with an IPhone5. The battery life is absolutely terrible. I've turned off GPS, Bluetooth, etc and it's still bad. The when I use these applications I have to remember to turn them back off. Just a pain in the arse all together. Call me simplistic, don't care.Apple platform>>>>>> Android for me.

Droid DNA looks amazing, but it is going to have battery issues. A screen that large with LTE, and only having a 2020 MaH battery is going to have battery issues. Should have at least had the same battery size as the S3.

as long as a phone can last around 16 hours, it's fine. charge at home, charge at work, charge in the car. don't see the point of having a phone that will last 3 days on one charge.
plus, root the phone install a franco or matrix kernel and the thing will literally double in battery life or set up profiles for screen off governors

Not at all. Its so thin it fits perfectly in a pocket. Jeans, khaki shorts, whatever you may be wearing. The S3 and Note 2 are the best phones on the market right now, IMO. I recommend going into your carrier, and trying it out. They will let you test it in your pocket. If you surf the web a lot on your phone like I do, its the perfect phone for you.
